I was wondering about pest control and @heirloomgal 's visiting bears. (We can give those weasels a pass if'n you don't have a poultry coop in the yard ;)!) Then I remember @peteyfoozer once mentioning cougars after her livestock. Of course, there's @baymule 's sheep & coyotes but Bay has those big Livestock GuardDogs.

Would pest control have some way of dealing with large, 4-legged critters?

Then, I came across this, this morning and continued my thoughts while out cleaning up tree branches that the "service" left in my yard after taking down that tree nextdoor. (It was a minor amount of work and small price to pay to get that thing outta here and put a stop to it pushing down her fence :).)

"Help" from pest control:

DANG Steve, you have a good memory!! Livestock Guardian dogs will take on anything they perceive as a threat, including bears. I actually would worry far less about my dogs with a bear than with wolves. Far too many LGD's have lost their lives trying to defend against a wolf pack. So sad. Unfortunately, my 'Great Whites' passed away. I was looking at buying an Anatolian, but then an FB friend offered me one of her Estrela puppies. I was going to ask @baymule if she has heard of them. All I know so far, is they are a rare LGD breed from Portugal. It's weird. For 12 years, I never lost a critter. Then my boys passed away and within a week, all of my chickens and ducks were dead (slaughtered in one night) and everynight, coyotes howling right behind the house. We don't appreciate how effective these dogs truly are until they are no longer here.

Steve, you have a good memory
No. I remember some things and not others. And, "others" far outnumber "some."

I've always been curious about your location and have spent some time in your neck of the woods. That time, however, was years ago. Growing up in the Medford area and maintaining contacts there for about 20+ years after moving away, and then to the NE, I have often searched out alternative routes for the drive, to & from.

Antelope -- I wonder how many people in other parts of N America have seen antelope ;).

I was goose hunting as a kid on Klamath Lake and traveling to visit family in Idaho. Then, I was passing through on my way to California or back to Oregon's Rogue River Valley for those family visits for many years.

I enjoyed the trips most every time! Drives during Christmas Season, altho fairly regular, were not always very relaxing but I'd usually stay west of the Cascades except for sneaking up & down the Columbia as best as I could, during those December & January drives.

“I've always been curious about your location”
We are east of Burns , beneath the Steens. It’s easier to do all our shopping in S Idaho and all my Dr are there. The ranch is 250,000 acres. If you’ve been to the Alvord desert, where Kittie O’Neal once set the women’s land speed record ( and sadly where Jessi Combs died) you’ve been on part of the ranch.

No. But, I have been to Jordan Valley and down to Winnemucca on 95.

I've been to Denio, which is close. In fact, I found Denio such a "different" place ;) that I have visited twice. It's also a little more direct a route if one ventures to the southern region of ID, on the way to that Rogue Valley area of OR.

@digitS' I am insulted!!
I vacation out west and I have seen many Pronghorn eating or running--NOT from my gun!
No bears except for "Bear Country"in SD.
Last time I visited Georgetown, CO they were in the middle of a drought and a resident bear had moved into town, which they accepted.
