    my tomatoes are bitter

Do you know if those "pocket" soil testers, (like from home depot) are accurate? I think they're pretty reasonable. I wonder if I "fix" the soil problem, if the fruits' taste will improve?

Would a potassium source be the epsom salt mixture I've read about?

    my tomatoes are bitter

No, it's been pretty dry here. I do water most days, though. Could I be over watering? I have fertilized around the base of the tomatoes with a nitrogen-phosphate-potash tomato food.

    my tomatoes are bitter

Hi everyone. I have been so proud of my tomatoes -- the plants are big and strong and I have about 150 of the green fruits ripening from only 4 plants! The first two I picked a couple of weeks ago were scrumptious! BUT... the last two tomatoes that have ripened are bitter. The fruit itself...

Planted WAY too much in 32 sq. ft. space

My husband and I laid down some weed guard and then laid the vines on top of that. Seems to be doing well so far. In fact I noticed the plants in the back were a lot perkier today with the vines all moved out of the way -- they finally get full sun! We started so late this year that I'm...

Planted WAY too much in 32 sq. ft. space

Interesting. I moved the vines out of the box and now there's more space for the other plants. It's too late for my pole beans, but I think I may get a few very small peppers after all. Should I prep the ground outside of the box in any way? It's just our sandy loam loaded with weeds. I guess...

Planted WAY too much in 32 sq. ft. space

Well, there's about 1 to 1.5 foot of space on each side of the garden. Then there's fencing which it can very definitely grow up or through. Then there are CHICKENS! What a treat for them. Given what you've written, I think the best be will be to move the temporary fencing on one side of the...

Planted WAY too much in 32 sq. ft. space

Thank you! I've already learned so much from this site. I have my cucumber vines growing up on stakes. I can do the same with the watermelon and cantalope, huh? Okay! That does sound like a better solution. I"m sure I have something around here to use as a stake -- I think I even have some...

Planted WAY too much in 32 sq. ft. space

I'm such a newbie. I found your site from the BYC site and was inspired to plant a garden this year. My DH made me a 4X8 box and filled it with beautiful, rich soil. Then, I planted too much in it and now my cucumber vines, cantalope vines and watermelon vines have totally choked out my pepper...
