And then this evening this slick young cow paid us a visit. Right now there’s still plenty to eat and the only thing that she seemed interested in was the Apple & Cherry tree; fortunately both are inside the chain link! Lot’s of folks complain each year about loosing whole gardens to them, which...

The Potato’s are on their way to the Barn for a couple days, cool as the evenings are i’ll just cover them and leave a fan on of an evening. Normally i’ll dig 80lbs from one of these beds, im guessing there’s at least 110lbs in the cart. I’ll weigh them once i bag em, some biggies in there too...

    A Seed Saver's Garden

@digitS', this statement struck me as an important element of gardening that many miss now days “I had several years experience with each variety”!

    Blight-resistant tomatoes

In our 12X24 greenhouse i run a Toyo stove AND a commercial dehumidifier; designed for 2500 sq ft. In our 300 sq ft greenhouse it does wonders keeping down the various “spores” that can and do exist in a “controlled environment”. It’s not a cure all but the difference is night and day since we...

13 gallon bags of beets with 3 large bags of beet greens on top of them; 21 gallon bags of the Bolero Carrots. This is just about twice our normal “root crop haul”; thank you Lord! And i still need to dig potatos; which usually runs around 80lbs.

Year after year i show you these same Carrots, just not this many! The Bolero’s will be bagged and join the Beets tomorrow. Between the Carrots and the Beets i’m expecting the 2nd fridge will be full too! And then there’s my Alaskan Palm!

They are lunar white and white satin which id not recommend, 2/3 of them went straight to seed!

Two beds of beets were lifted, washed, trimmed and are in the barn till tomorrow. A picture of one of the beet beds. This morning i bagged yesterdays effort and moved them to the cooler, which they pretty well filled up! Right now the perforated bags are all open till the moisture “normalize’s”...

Hoping to finish lifting the root veg’s this week. Parsnips and white Carrots are in and the Bolero (orange) carrots should he done in a couple days. They take a little longer because i’ll carefully clean and bundle the tops into shocks for Rabbit fodder. They are unique in that they wont mold...

If You Could Grow Only One Crop This Season, What Would It Be?

I’m joining the Cucumber camp! You’ve seen my arrangement for growing them indoors and how i can still have my own cukes up to Christmas! Well, this year i’ve added another hootch out in the shop and am going to play with the timing; trying to now have them 24/7/365! Store bought ones are...

I cut and dried the Self Heal earlier and am always happy when it comes back and flowers. It is a perennial but ive noticed it always does better when there’s a bazillion seeds nicely dispersed in there. In those years it will be so thick that i just grab handfuls like im pulling chickweed, to...

Each of the fruit trees get’s a couple gallons of fish emulsion in the spring along with 3-4lbs. of dry amendments then a drip timer delivers about a gallon of water everyday. Both the Comfrey and Raspberries get a similar treatment. This is one of the nicer ones with a hand for comparison...
