    freezers?

We have a 7.2 CF freezer and love it. We went in on a small steer last year and also bought a goat...the meat anyway :D (about 150lbs in steaks, chops, burger, roast etc.) and there was still plenty of room left for bread or veggies. I filled that space with milk jugs full of water. I don't...

    Uhhh Translation please? Growing strawberries.

Thanks all! What the heck did I get myself into? Oh well, these are the only seeds I have that need "special treatment", it'll be worth it if I can get them to grow. Pat, they are just plain Alpine Strawberries, nothing fancy. I didn't realize it would be such a pain to start them...lol.

    Uhhh Translation please? Growing strawberries.

Okay... so what you're saying is to refrigerate the seeds (for how long?) Do I place them in moist paper towels or just stick them in there in the package? After I cold treat them, then find a soilless mix at the garden supply store and place the seeds in that. The I cover them...but cover them...

    Uhhh Translation please? Growing strawberries.

Directions on my strawberry seeds: Sow seeds thinly in a fine soilless mix. Cover lightly and keep moist. Cold treat seeds prior to sowing. So can some one translate this into terms that I would understand. Soilless mix?? What else would I use? Sorry to sound like a ding dong...but when it...

English Walnut trees for the North?

:( I think I will pass on trying walnuts then. I don't think $23+ is worth it for a stick. Bummer.

Anyone in zone 6b or lower... watermellons?

I remember growing them as a kid (we were in zone 4 for sure). I ordered watermelon seeds from Pinetree and am going to try them. Can't hurt to try. :)

Found a Great site if you're looking for trees.

Lol...I don't really need anymore trees either, Wildsky, I want them! I'd like to have a little Orchard. I'm even thinking about getting some of those patio citrus trees that I've seen in plant/seed magazines. Fruit is expensive and it'd be nice to save a few dollars and get better quality food.

I agree with Picco, we NEED a recipe section. Also a preserving/canning section...I would love to learn how to make raspberry preserves with my yummy raspberries.

Found a Great site if you're looking for trees.

Just wanted to let you know I stumbled upon the Arbor Day Foundations website and am in love with it! One of the great features is that you can type in your zip code and the site will bring up a list of trees that work well in your zone. They have everything from nut, to fruit and flowing...

    Sandhill Preservation

Wow, you're Zoned 4 Wildsky? I think their veggies will do good here as well. We have a mix of sandy, and clay soil, a river runs right along our property. Would like to here how their veggies grow and maybe try some melons...I never imagined being able to grow melons here, but they seem to be...

    Sandhill Preservation

Has anyone purchased seeds from them? OR where is the best place to purchase seeds and what's the best brand in your opinion? DH and I want to grow a big garden this year (we have grown just tomatoes in the past) as our attempt to become more independent and for fun.
