This ought to be a good one.....who is from BYC??

I don't mind an old thread but if someone wants to start a new one I'm for it. Here it is Feb. 2014 and we've had very little winter so all my roses are leafing out and thankfully I pruned early this year, daffodils are blooming, yellow jasmine and my plum tree has blossoms on it. The peach...

    Iris bed???

Such pretty iris-can't wait for mine to bloom this spring. I have a 20X50 garden with iris around all sides with a diamond shaped bricked bed in the center with roses in it. I have 20 or 30 different colors and they grow quite well here in the desert.

    Eucalyptus Trees

Has anyone grown a eucalyptus tree from a cutting? I live in the desert and they grow well here and make good windbreaks. The trouble is that to buy from a nursery they're very expensive.

Your Earliest Seeds in the Starting Mix

I just found the new Easy Gardening website although I've been on others, BYC. I live in the desert and growing can be a challenge in all the heat and dry conditions in summer, but we are blessed with lots of sunshine in winter so can plant seeds early indoors in a window but our nights are too...

What Are You Planting Today, This Week, This Month?

Crazy weather here. It can't decide whether it wants to be winter or spring. No rain or snow bur everyone around us has had some. It's been extremely cold at some nights-9 degrees our lowest, but we've had days in the 80's, some days. I have daffodils in bloom which is right for the time of...

What Are You Planting Today, This Week, This Month?

I've been planting rose bushes a friend gave me because she's moving and doesn't want to leave them at her old place. She doesn't want to move them out of state either. They'll make a nice addition to my rose bed. I always have room for roses and bearded iris. My onions and garlic are coming...

What Are You Planting Today, This Week, This Month?

I planted a few different varieties last fall so I'm looking forward to seeing them bloom. I can't do much in Jan. except prune and clean up. It's time to clean up my iris bed. I have a hundred or so bearded iris, all colors mostly the tall bearded and medium bearded. They and roses do well...

What Are You Planting Today, This Week, This Month?

Tonight here in the high desert of CA we are going to have temps down in the single digits so everyone east of us can expect more cold weather. It is supposed to warm up after tonight but only to the freezing mark. If I plant things early I put a frost blanket over everything, usually just in...

What Are You Planting Today, This Week, This Month?

Eucalyptus do very well here in the high desert. In fact, all over S. Caqlifornia and the Central Valley. They like dry conditions and will tolerate our winds. They also grow fast. I have about a dozen now ranging in size from 4 feet to over 20 feet. To buy a tree about 4 ft. costs about $40...

What Are You Planting Today, This Week, This Month?

Thank you for your advice. I had thought of it but hadn't got around to it but I guess It's time to give it a try. Everything I've read online has a said they're hard to start as cuttings and reccomend seeds instead but I've never tried that either since I'd have to order online. Will try the...

I'm not planting anything right now, but making plans for the end of January. I have onions and garlic growing. I'll have a big job in my garden this time. My daughter and family lived with us for four months while waiting to get a house. They'd moved down from WA and the first house's...

What Are You Planting Today, This Week, This Month?

I planted garlic and onions a week or so ago and they're coming up. I'm going to transplant my blueberry bush after Thanksgiving and then I'll tackle the bearded iris. I'll be planting the ones a friend gave me before she moved.

What Are You Planting Today, This Week, This Month?

You're right about Jacksonville. I was back for my granddaughters wedding last October and I noticed all the changes. A tornado had gone through an area where my daughter lives and we saw the damage to that. When I lived there (left in 1989) I lived in a 75 year old house on a dirt road just...
