What in the World is THIS?

:bee Well, the 7.5 pound Pumpcchinis finally pulled the pvc arched trellis down to the ground. I cut the fruit for the chickens and cleaned out the vines...not an easy task, and they had little prickly thorns on them too! I planted dragon tongue beans in it's place. These are cream colored...

    Water Lilies in the Pond

Thanks Carol Dee...I think your success is largely due to the bio filtration you have set up. Nature always knows best. I congratulate you on the well done pond and ecosystem. Now if I can just make my bigger one work better, I'll be happy. Bigger isn't always better. I'm using a 'sludge...

    Water Lilies in the Pond

Carol dee what a fabulous pond/lily/koi set up you have!!!! I'm impressed! Do you have problems with the koi eating the new growth on the lilies....that's what everyone tells me. Looks like you are making the combo work. What's your secret? What kind of filtration do you use?

    Water Lilies in the Pond

Well, N. Florida is hotter than the third circle of Hell right now. It's in the 90's in the daytime and only cools to high 70's at night. Sure is early in the season to be this hot. My poor 'furry' silkie chickens are panting, oh my! They look at me as if to say, "Gee, I wish I could take my...

Picture Of The Week (POW) Information & Submissions

What is the variety of your last pix, the passiflora? Is it incense? Care to share some seeds at some time? I love passion flowers and have several varieties. This one is absolutely beautiful! I ordered seeds from one that looks a lot like it, but they never germinated, BAH!

When is it too late to plant watermelons?

Well, we had a rainstorm last night and the pvc trellis that I had the Squmpkin vine on bent all the way to the ground with the weight of all that fruit. I'm surprised the PVC didn't snap and break. I can't even get the chickens to eat them. Sooo, I cut them all off the vines and took the vines...

What Are You Planting Today, This Week, This Month?

    World Naked Gardening Day

Long ago, in a galaxy far, far away....I was planting and pruning when it started to rain. Now a real gardener isn't going to run for cover just because a few drops of rain dampen their hair, right? So I kept planting. It began to rain harder. I tried to finish up that one area so I could go...

When is it too late to plant watermelons?

OK, I got seeds of Crimson Sweet and Sugar Baby. I don't have a lot of room so I won't use all the seeds, I'm sure. I think I'll offer them to my neighbor, then when he has too many melons I'll generously offer to take them off his hands....for the chickens of course. HA!

Does it taste different from the red centered ones?

When is it too late to plant watermelons?

Thanks so much! I have this volunteer unidentified "squash"(?) taking over my trellis and making melon sized fruit. The chickens are tired of eating it and I can't do anything with it. So I'm thinking of cutting it all down and starting something my chickens will eat. This photo was taken...

When is it too late to plant watermelons?

I live in Jacksonville, FL and we are already getting daytime temps as high as 90. Is it too late to plant some sugar baby watermelons for the chickens to enjoy?

    Why do you garden?

Of course you may! Gardens are meant to be enjoyed, even if only in photos. I wish you could come and "take the tour", I have decks and raised beds around 3/4 of my house and driveway. I keep flowers mostly in the back yard which borders the river. I use evergreen plantings and a few accent...

    Why do you garden?

I have Spring Fever....year round. (It's a chronic condition and eventually fatal). I moved to Florida 30 years ago because the growing season was longer and the winter agony was shorter. After reading all the above posts, I understand my compulsion a little better. My garden feeds my soul...
