I am in Lakewood. Our garden is so far behind schedule this year with this crazy weather! I am still putting out more plants though. Let's hope for a long Fall.
Thanks, Pat. I think I will keep what I have in my planters and maybe add some different mix to the top. I'm sure it will be fine, although it irritates me that they sent me this. At least the new planters look great!
Oh God, it is so sad. :( I am a student, so I can't afford more soil let alone all the work it is going to take to remove this stuff and replace it.
I just found out I am not getting my new birds either (seller can't fill the order). So, this is my first summer in three years that I have any...
Thanks, Hattie. How long do they need to be covered though? I had thought about maybe trying some of that black plastic sheeting and using it around the plants so that maybe it heats up the soil, but I can hopefully still plant.
LOL, I missed that the first time I read the post. LOL..
So, I don't have to be worried about potential bacteria or anything infecting my veggies and making us sick from the compost?
Hi Andy-
Yeah, that is something I forgot to mention. It is sprouting seeds. I had it under plastic tarps for about a week and when I uncovered it, there were seeds sprouted in it. Some of them were sprouted surprisingly deep down into the pile too.
Hey Everyone!
I have finally finished my raised planters and filled them with a planter's mix I ordered. The mix is supposed to be top soil, decomposed wood, and dairy compost.
Is there a concern with using compost that has not fully decomposed? I ask because I have found various things in...
Thank you all. I am going to try to set up a compost area at my new place. I just don't have time to do it for this year. I would much rather know exactly what is in the compost I use than to buy it somewhere. As far as mulch, I would like to try coconut coir. It is just so expensive.
That...
Who knew gardening can be so complicated and confusing! LOL, I have gardened for awhile now, but I am trying to be much more conscious about the products I am using these days. It is all so complicated!
Right now, I am trying to decide what to do for a growing medium and mulch. I had picked...
Well, it sounds like you are super busy. I can totally relate! I feel like I never have free time to get anything done, LOL. I love staying busy though, so I guess it is all good. :)
Wow! Thanks for all of the great info! I think I will try a combination of all that. I am transplanting them outside. I might try transplanting some that I thin off the main pods into a different container to see if they grow. The rest I may just try thinning some and leaving some as is.
Hey Y'all,
I have another question I am having problems finding a definitive answer to. I have started several plants including several lettuces. I started them in an Aerogarden seed tray. The directions said to start six seeds per hole and then thin the plants down to the strongest.
The...
Thank you! I feel like the project is taking forever to get off the ground. Whenever we think we are going to have time to get the remaining things we need, something comes up. Such is life, LOL. :)
