I like Bibb lettuce. Why grow a lettuce that chews like a stalk of celery? (I keep going around asking these weird rhetorical questions ... ;)). Why put up with such a thing?!!

Seed starting? Except for onions, I'm still treading water, Major'.

I'm shocked AND offended Major!
Not that you're picking fresh vegetables in February. I'm used to that sort of abuse from you now, but you appear to be smoking a carrot!

well it's sure a lot healthier smoking a carrot than a cigar... sure with this new e-cigarette vapor thing they just might have carrot formaldehyde flavored oil.

Well, here I was assuming that North Carolina was getting the nasty weather that the rest of the eastern side of the country is. 51* sounds wonderful. It's 10* here this morning, with a strong north wind, and still about 8" of snow on the ground. I have carrot envy.

My low tunnel caved in on itself in the snow, and I can't even get to it due to the ice-covered snow blocking the garden gate. I'm willing to bet the mustard and chard are.....toast.

I'm trying to stay positive....it will get above freezing this week, finally.

Love your raised beds, what kind of lumber did you use ? Do the braces on the side go underground?
it's just 12x2 yellow pine figure will get 5 years out of it before needing to replace them and yes the side braces go down 8-10" it's easier to have the braces on the outside since i take the cultivator through the beds a couple times a year....

this last snow/sheet/ice storm that came through last week did the same in spots" lack of hoops to hold up the plastic" and oh yes we are experiencing the yankee vortex as well down here. just checked the 10 day forecast the temps are all over the board. if the forecast holds true might even a able to till under the red clover next weekend....:fl
would really like to try on getting the potatoes in the ground in the next couple weeks, of course under plastic.....
