Here fava beans are known for often getting lots of black aphids at the top of each plant, and then when they’re bad they can spread downwards. The usual advice is to pinch off the top few inches to discourage them. It doesn’t affect the developing bean pods and the tops are also good to eat!
So all round, it’s worth a try.

@digitS' I planted Fava beans, (Broadbeans) here in spring and they grew well, made flowers but as the lower flowers aged they turned black. I think it's lack of pollenation but I'm not sure. It may be the heat. We had high 80's and some 90's in April and May.

So, I got the Aquadulce beans and I will try again. This time I am going to plant them in raised beds, as before, but wait until at least October to sew them outside. The weather is so unpredictable there's no telling if it will have cooled down in October or not here. :hu I might have to wait til November.

BTW I didn't have aphids of any color bothering mine.
