I cut and dried the Self Heal earlier and am always happy when it comes back and flowers. It is a perennial but ive noticed it always does better when there’s a bazillion seeds nicely dispersed in there. In those years it will be so thick that i just grab handfuls like im pulling chickweed, to thin it!

Hoping to finish lifting the root veg’s this week. Parsnips and white Carrots are in and the Bolero (orange) carrots should he done in a couple days. They take a little longer because i’ll carefully clean and bundle the tops into shocks for Rabbit fodder. They are unique in that they wont mold while hanging in the barn and even after they wilt down, the Bunnies still relish them!

Beets and potato’s yet to go.

Two beds of beets were lifted, washed, trimmed and are in the barn till tomorrow. A picture of one of the beet beds.
This morning i bagged yesterdays effort and moved them to the cooler, which they pretty well filled up!

Right now the perforated bags are all open till the moisture “normalize’s” then they’ll all get closed and some of the bags tightened up a bit.

Soon as the smoke clears, i’ll order next years seeds! I’ve got a tough life.

What variety of white carrot is that @Alasgun? Those roots look incredible.

Interesting you mention that, because I grew the variety 'Kyoto Red' this year and was astounded when several of the plants went to seed in early August. I didn't even know that was possible for a biennial? I've never seed that before. Your experience of bolting with so many of your carrots makes me think it's probably a varietal weakness of some kind?

Year after year i show you these same Carrots, just not this many! The Bolero’s will be bagged and join the Beets tomorrow. Between the Carrots and the Beets i’m expecting the 2nd fridge will be full too!

And then there’s my Alaskan Palm!

13 gallon bags of beets with 3 large bags of beet greens on top of them; 21 gallon bags of the Bolero Carrots.
This is just about twice our normal “root crop haul”; thank you Lord!
And i still need to dig potatos; which usually runs around 80lbs.

With nite temps dipping into the mid 30’s it was time to move Pumpkins and Onions into the Cellar. After digging Potato’s tomorrow i’ll be one step closer to done for this season.
