Poison Ivy

I have a large lot of poison ivy. It is inbetween my chicken yard and the landlords corn field. I didn't know it was poison ivy until I decided to weedwack it :he

I am now covered in red itchy blisters and the ivy continues to climb up and over/through my chainlink fence. I'm allergic to this stuff and it's horrible. My chickens haven't tooken interest in it like I wanted :/ Any ideas. We've tried roundup and am at a loss.

Goats love poison ivy and will keep eating it to the ground until they have killed it. However remember not to handle the goats or drink milk from goats that have been eating it.
I consider myself fortunate that I was born with a natural immunity to both poison ivy and poison oak. One of my sisters is also immune.

First thing I do when I get poison ivy is call my doctor and have him prescribe what I call the "birth control pills for poison ivy" They come in a pkg that has a row of a set number of pills you take the first day, might be 5, the next row has one less for the 2nd day and so forth.
They calm down the itch and dry up the rash. I wish I had a name for you but I don't.
What did the Round Up do? Was it the brush cutter stuff or home use type? I try and use the mix it yourself stuff and mix it heavier than they say. The only thing then is you need a sprayer.

My husband swears by Zanfel and Tec-nu. Both are scrubs that you use after you've been exposed to help "clean up" the oils from your skin. If you're already fullblown, it will help it dry out and heal faster.

My husband agrees with the Zanfel 100%!

However, like Hoodat, I am immune to poison ivy and poison oak. I walk through it, and hubby follows me without thinking to suffer later. Only I may tread through the woods in flip flops.

Second thing I'd do (get meds to stop itching of ivy is first) is buy some 2-4D and keep spraying until it's dead. Won't hurt grass.

I use to be immune to the stuff until my son got a bad case of it, then suddenly I lost my immunity........dang kids.

I think I read somewhere that as soon as you know you've exposed yourself to poison ivy, wash exposed areas in cold (not hot) water using dishwashing liquid that cuts grease and oil. Also, don't try to burn the stuff - you'll breathe it in and have blisters in your nose, mouth, etc.

I had some Poison Oak in a fence row at a former house. I sprayed it with a brush killer, not the milder weed killer. It took three years of spraying it whenever I saw it coming back to eliminate it. I can't remember the brand name of the brush killer.

I keep pouring straight vinegar on the foliage and it kills it but also everything else near it and as a double duty I sprinkle salt around the vine roots as well. So far for a year it has kept it off my fence row here by the house. Works in a pinch if money is tight !!!! It is also nontoxic to the kids.

I got a terrible case of poison ivy once camping in a park with my horses. I couldn't believe that they could eat that stuff and not have a reaction!!! :ep
