    Whoa--are you talking Jerusalem artichokes or the ones I would more typically associate with warmer weather, the ones that are the above-ground flowering fruit of the artichoke plant (sorry, very clumsily worded)?

    Seed train like on BYC?

    Would anybody be interested in doing a seed train? On BYC they are doing one, but it moves awfully fast! Basically, you offer some seeds you have on hand. If anybody wants to accept, they reply to accept and in the same post offer seeds of their own. Full rules and details here...

    Oh boy--my memory is awful. I know we have Reliance, maybe Elberta (zone 5 for that one) and Contender. We are south-facing slope here, but sometimes that actually hurts us for blooms coming sooner and then frosted. Last frost date approximately May 12.

    How about Red Malabar spinach? It has a pretty maroonish stem, lots of large, thick, shiny leaves, and it climbs. Thrives in heat. Edible. Not actually spinach but can be used just like it.
