Hello @Fasol What might be the names of the bean varieties bred from the Vavilov collection? Are they pictured in your bean photo postings with the wood grain background? Will you be posting more such photos of your beans in the future?

I would mulch bush bean well for weed control and some bush plants when they become mature lay over on the ground. Good mulching will keep them healthier and off the soil. You will appreciate the mulching you did when some of the plants you save for seed start drying pods.

Stringless beans are not GMO. I don't know of any garden variety of beans that are GMO. I think mostly farm crops like corn and soybeans are probably Genetically modified for productivity. Stringless snap beans are naturally that way. Stringlessness was probably always part of beans. Some people...

Yes snap beans are the term for eating bean pods green as a vegetable. Many varieties these days are stringless. Long time ago green bean pods used to be called string beans. In some parts of the country some gardeners are still de-stringing their eatable pods. Dry beans are the kind you dry and...

I think these two photos are the ones you like the best. Would you like a sample of each of these to keep and grow. Just in case I decide these beans are taking up too much room in the freezer. If they are in fact still stored in the freezer and I didn't already eat them. I could send you a...

I would imagine that Europe has many bees otherwise why Guy Dirix want to surround his beans with so many flowers. A few nights ago I was watching a documentary on plants and insects in England. England has 50 species of just Bumblebees not counting other bees they have.

@Rillowen In regards to crosses. I only plant my stringless bush snap beans only with other stringless bush snap beans. No pole beans in the mix and no dry beans of any sort in the mix. No semi runner beans in the mix. I do the same for stringless pole snap beans. No pole dry beans in the mix...

I had both the white seed and the bluish seed you sent. I planted the Blue seed as Tres Hatif De Massey and the white seed and Fine de Villenuve. I'm just wondering If I switched the names. So when I sent the seed to William Woys Weaver and he saw that I had the bluish seed marked as Tres Hatif...

I can't remember who supplied the beans to me from IPK and did I somehow get the names of the blue one and the white one reversed? Set me straight did I rerverse the names? I think I planted some of the white ones as a pole bean and none of that seed germinated. I thought the bluish seeds did...

Russ's 2025 Big Bean Show Day 50 In 2020 I discovered one off type plant in Victoria Brown Eyes that looked like Jacob's Cattle but with slightly narrower seed. In 2021 upon growing that off type I got all sorts of shades of colors with the Jacob's Cattle pattern. The one I would really like to...

I made a good discovery yesterday. I thought I had eaten those nice bean off types from the Milky Way. Apparently I put them in a jar and set them downstairs in the basement where it's cool on the very table where I package beans often. There they were sitting on the other side of the table I...

Russ's 2025 Big Bean Show Day 49 Veitch Wonder - Bush Dry. (Photo Left) Looks like a small P. Coccineus. It didn't do well this past summer but has grown well in the past. It is in fact a hybrid of common bean (Phaseolus Vulgaris x a runner bean Phaseolus Coccineus) from the James Veitch...

Russ's 2025 Big Bean Show Day 49 Tara - Pole Dry. (Photo Left) This comes from my dry bean farmer friend in Idaho Falls. I think he told me once that it was something developed in Japan. It has somewhat of a large size seed a bit larger than a bean like Bosnian. About average production nothing...
