They really are cheap and they work for a long time. We have a lot less flies now. I even put them out on my porch by the backdoor and frontdoor.

Welcome @Clovepink. I do much more gardening in my imagination than I ever do in real time and surprisingly enough my imagined garden is much bigger and beautiful, lol. Arm chair gardening is my favorite kind! Less sweat and toil. Of course there is the downside of less fruits of labor.

Tools are so valuable it's unbelievable that he didn't consider taking them home. I'm wondering if they were even his. People usually are careful with something they paid hard earned money for. I wouldn't worry about it.

If the ground is dry and rock hard it is hard to dig. I always used a garden fork to loosen the ground around the vegetables and work them back and forth (again gently) before trying to pull. Also try to harvest before a big rain (especially after it's been dry) because it could cause potatoes...

Vinegar also kills vegetation so maybe it helps get rid of some of the roots but it is so diluted, so maybe not.

Now that you mention it I remember about a year (maybe longer) ago hearing about a dog flu on the news. My sister was saying her dogs had been sick and I told her about it. Her dogs felt puny for a few days but recovered. My pup didn't get sick at all but then again maybe it was something else...
