I have always heard Irises are hardy, which is probably why Granny asked me to take some... she knew I would have a hard time killing them, and they multiplied like rabbits around her place.

Seedlings have been planted (in between our big rains that we ARE NOT complaining about), and the chicks have finally feathered out and been moved outside to a transition coop. This means I now have a dining table again! My husband will be so excited to not have to eat dinner at the bar anymore...

I agree. I thought it was smushed, or half eaten, when I found it because it's head was sticking up like that. I've live out in the boondocks my entire life and have seen some funny looking bugs, but never one like this. Imagine my surprise when the thing started moving. :ep

So.... I went through the bug key and it led to cockroach too. I googled cockroach and came across a picture of an Oriental Roach, http://entnemdept.ufl.edu/creatures/urban/roaches/oriental_cockroach.htm. I'm pretty sure this is it. Apparently it likes damp places and due to all the rain...

Oh my goodness gracious. That would be awful! I'm sure a tiller, even a small one, could throw a rock out at a very high velocity. Ours' has a guard on the back so it isn't SUPPOSED to be able to spit things back at you, but only the Lord knows where that stuff is going. I won't let my kids...

I love reading through this, very interesting. And, I'm glad I'm not the only person that has tilled barefoot. My husband keeps telling me that I'm going to chop my foot off (a combination of overprotective and years of safety training :lol:).

Maybe it'll hit him one of these days.:) My parents didn't garden (even though we had a cattle ranch with plenty of roomo_O). My grandpa did though and the grandkids always had a good time helping. And like you said, we enjoyed eating the vegetables a lot more than the normal grocery store...
