And a great big welcome from Vancouver Island, so glad you joined us. We all have failures at times, try and talk to other gardeners in your location, better still if there's a local garden club they could be a great help to you. Welcome to the family:).

@Bluejay77 I also grew Fort Portal Jade a few years back, mainly because of the unique color of the seed but being a bush bean and I mostly grow pole beans I gave my seed to Dan Jason, (Salt Spring Seeds).

@Raiquee I don't grow Fava's but now you've peaked my interest, I'll have to do some snooping;).
Is this the same one? https://www.rareseeds.com/atawallpa-s-fingerprint-fava-bean/submit-review/

When I first started gardening seriously back in the 50's the only beans I grew were scarlet runners, these were the only fresh green beans my family ever grew to eat. When we moved to our forever home in 1965 a neighbor gave me a handful of green beans to try and said if we liked them she'd...
@Raiquee a big welcome from another bean grower, lately my interest has been in finding hard to find or rare varieties and in a small way help getting them back in circulation. What part of the country do you garden in, I'm north of the border on Vancouver Island.

None here, last year we had two. Hubby has a bag of chocolate bars to suffer through. I don't have a sweet tooth, salted nuts are not safe around me :).

We don't get many at our door anymore, some years none. All the kids around here have grown up and have families of their own. Still one has to be prepared so I get hubby to pick up what he likes as he's the one that has to eat the left over booty.
Such a shame we can't give out things like...

@Ridgerunner I have never experienced getting reversed seed coat from planting reversed patterned seed and when I get reversed pattern the whole pod is.
I had one instance of an oddity with a pod of Mr. Tung's, when shelling I found this, one distinctly pink bean the rest looked normal for the...
Talking about reversed seed coat colors, I have several in my stash that do this on occasion like my Emelia's Italian
When these are planted they just revert back o their normal pattern , the same with Jeminez...
Then there's pod color, yes this the actual color of a dry pod of White Hull...
Russ the last time I grew CANDY I got a couple of reversed color seed
I believe I sent them on to you, The name you gave them represents them well, just from the looks of them you'd think if you popped one in your mouth you'd taste peppermint :).

"It has a noticable bend in the seed around the center of the bean" this must be a characteristic of this variety. I bought Brejo from Seed Dreams back in 2012. I noticed the same quirk when I grew it.
