Today was fantastic! My daughter was invited to a birthday party. We're friends with the whole family but they moved so we don't see them often. My son is good friends with the older brother in the family, so he came too and they had a great time. The older boy is also a gardener, and the new...
It was a nice day out today so I spent a long time outside. Got the pea garden set and the back garden weeded, fertilized and ready to go. My daughter had an early release so we invited her friend over. They spent most of the day outside playing and enjoying the sun too.
It is very evident that...
Wow, guess I haven't updated this in a while!
Things are going good in the garden. The cold season crops are straining to get out of their cups, so I put them out to harden off. The plants were so much happier outside that after just a couple of days I let them stay outdoors. I guess they...
I bought a strawberry plant, the kind that is in a bag, in a box. My raspberry plant and blueberry plant came with a stem sticking out the top of the bag. The strawberry did not. When I opened it, I found it roots up, plant down, and the green part of it was rotted. Is it still salvageable? If I...
I made my husband and I chair covers for our desk chairs today too. Mine is really ratty, but still rolls good. My husband's is brand new, and he wants to keep it nice. A chair cover for each solved both problems!
My first time making my own pattern too.
Thank you @Phaedra !! It worked! The cake part was very obedient this time! It did not collapse. It was relatively easy to roll, unroll and roll again. I'm so excited!
I know!! My husband was asking me what I was going to do to try and fix the cake roll, so I told him about @Phaedra and how much she's been helping me. I'm excited to try again and maybe have a beautiful cake roll to share!
Thank you for the tips! The recipe I was using mentioned the dangers of yolk in the white also, so I had a three bowl system. I didn't break any yolks though--this time!
Thank you so much! Looking at your egg whites, I don't think I beat mine enough. The instructions I had said to beat them until medium peaks formed, and that I'd know because they would make a peak, but then fall over half way. Since I'd never done it before I didn't have a visual reference of...
Well...chiffon cake did not go so well. It baked up very nicely in the oven, but during the cooling phase it seemed to deflate a little. Not enough to be a problem, but definitely noticeable. More problematically, it stuck to the parchment paper and broke apart in my efforts to get it off.
My...
Phaedra, thank you so much for sharing these!! I am going to try and make a lemon roll cake, using a chiffon style cake. If rolling is successful, I'll try that rainbow cake again. I'm so grateful to you for sharing your baking. It's really helping me learn!
Got the ingredients for an experimental chiffon cake! I don't know when I'll find time to bake it, but hopefully this week.
Got all my cold weather crops that need to be started indoors planted, and potted up some tomatoes!
