I did manage to find some nicely sprouted fresh ginger at the supermarket one year and planted it. It grew, but it doesnt have that nice zing that the shop ones have, so I havent really done anything with it except make sure the weeds dont overwhelm it.
More recently, I found some Myoga Ginger...
I'm happy that I have managed to grow all my own fruit for the last couple of years. For me, getting the fruit trees in and producing was key. I do miss bananas though, but have resisted the urge to buy them. I do have three baby plants that I have been pampering, with one now in the ground...
We go onto lock down as of tomorrow midnight for the next 4 weeks..even though we havent even had a single deth from this virus to date.
I took mum shopping to make sure she had everything she needed and will take my invoice over to my boss tomorrow, just to make sure it arrives, to let him...
No, after thinking about it some more, I think it is because they like one of the frames for brood, that I have been trying to move over to the honey side and out. Its an Original frame that the bees came in....Usually, once the brood cells are capped, I've been able to move it out of the nest...
Today, I decided that I had to inspect both hives inspite of the hot dry weather; its been almost too long since the last one.
I start with Rua- my new baby hive.
I had to put three frames of honey right at the very end of the long hive to try to stop them from building fins out from the edge...
I am so glad we dont have that here, its bad enough with convovulus and couch grass.
Yesterday morning was dark and windy and I thought- oh good, we're going to get some rain.' Didnt happen, the wind just turned ferocious and blew the fruit off my Peach and Avocado tree- Never did find the...
Yes I had but it looks much bigger from ground level for some reason.
I have a bit over a 1/4 acre which I find big, sometimes too big, but just have to keep chipping away at it to knock it back in shape.
I got the next bed made up- paths done on three sides, but all four edges put in place. This is an extra wide bed at 5 foot wide rather than 3 or 4 like the others.
One end of this has excess partially broken down woodchip stacked up out of my way. With the other side, I have planted out my...
One Cherry tomato plant decided to start growing out over the path, so I have had a really good crop of these and yet more are coming along, just as well cos the rest off the died some time back.
Apples by the dozens- I got a dehydrator so I could cook these down and make fruit leathers with...
A green worm? You say that ......and no pic?
Its not a Horse hair worm is it? Long, green, really skinny; like a hair and moves in a wavy type manner, but moves away when you put your finger next to it?
I did alot of study before I got my first hive and I honestly think anybody who is looking at getting bees should do a really good research before they do. Truth be told, I still do alot of study and still read everything i can lay my hands on.
Another good idea is to join a local beekeepers...
Its most definitely on topic.
I stopped looking at things like 'proper ratios' a few years ago and did try to just recycle my own organic 'waste', trying to apply the law of return.
While I do buy the odd bag of compost and more often, potting mix. Its usually mixed with my own soil to get the...
I used to use the wood chip on the paths but found they broke down amazingly fast making me need to scoop it onto the beds and then start weeding the paths again.
I had put a glasshouse slap-dab in the middle of the vegie garden and decided to try a hugelculture thing with the woodchip over the...
I finally got the next bed cleared of convovulus...as much as one can for a first time round. Just under half of the bed is planted out with leeks and sown down with spring onions, carrots, red bunching onions and a row of florence fennel.
Half of the bed had been heavily mulched with woodchip...
