I needed to revive this post because I have more questions. I have many of these squash now almost at full maturity. They are turning a golden tan like my butternut. I guess my question is that for regular pumpkins you pick when the vines die? Should maybe I do the same for the Cushaw...
I have to admit I have never tried to make sauerkraut in the way that you are doing it. But I thought I would share something with you. This is a great example of how I make sauerkraut.

This was mine on day two. By day 3 it was bubbling and...
Wow, I never even thought of that. I will start saving them. I am very new to saving seeds. Can you give me any tips? Last year I saved the seeds from a store bought dumpling squash and planted them. It grew nicely. All I did was rinse and let them dry on a paper towel. Does that sound...
This is what I have planted.

Thank you for the curing info. I think they will hold for quite a while.

Yes exactly. When you pick them young 6 to 7 inches they are very tender. The meat to seed ratio is good. I have a few that were missed and managed to get a bit big. They seem to be tougher(the skin) and more seedy. I am going to try and store them. I guess it doesn't hurt to try.

I am being over run by Lebanese squash. I am trying to pick them while they are still small like they recommend but I keep finding them hidden everywhere. Some have reached the size of a spaghetti squash.
Today I made the Lebanese squash cookie recipe and this afternoon I plan to make...
I have only made sauerkraut by the Nourishing Traditions recipe that calls for added whey. Mine bubbles in in the first 3 days.
They say organic cabbage is better because the beneficial bacteria is still present. Perhaps you cabbage was to "clean".

My tomatoes have been doing the same thing one by one. I have a few extra spot on the leaves. The weather here couldn't be better. I water regularly.
Does anyone know how blight gets into the garden and how to get rid of it? Will it come back again next year? I did not have this problem...
Honestly I picked them young because I thought they needed to be tender. I have not eaten them yet. Maybe I will shred and donate these picked ones to my chickens.
They are doing amazingly well. I also have the White Lebanese squash from Bakers Creek seeds. Looks like I need to figure out...
Oh, thanks guys. But I think I found it. Cushaw Squash.
