I used a 1/4" adapter to tap the tree and a hose from the adapter to the bucket. Anyone who has access to some maple trees should try it just for the fun of it. Also, if you do not have a hygrometer you also boil the water until it is 6 degrees above boling temp. Water boils at 208 at my...
I am finally getting something that looks alive in my garden. The fence that you see is 3 ft. high.
I tapped some maple trees at the beginning of the week. The first pic is from this morning. The 2nd pic is the same location last year.
The gray is used for conduit - (electrical) it is not pressure rated, like to hold water pressure, it is cheaper than the white PVC and will fit the white fittings. I am not sure about the UV qualities.
One thing that I might add to the plant stand info would be flats that do not have holes in the bottom. Even if you dont mind water on the floor it will not be good for the lights underneath. I was just watering some plants and thought of it.
Boggy,
I think your numbers are correct. You will probably have to buy 60 ft of pipe so even if you cut something wrong or decide to change something you will have extra. Good luck and let me know how you like the end result.
Small hooks - I just drilled a small hole in the bottom of the pipe and screwed hooks into it.
Don't worry about asking too many questions. I have received a lot of help from others thru the years and I will try to help in anyway I can.
I didnt see any significant change in the electric bill. There are so many different variables. More lights on in the winter - dehumidifier in the summer but I couldnt see much change. As far as seeds, it holds 12 flats so depending on what you grow would determine how many plants.
I know I...
I have my garden set up with 4 ft beds and 2 ft walkways in between. I cover the walkways with wood chips. It is never muddy working in the garden, even after a rain.
If you still need to do something with them you can send them my way, I am in SW Pennsylvania
HiDelight, it sounds like you have a good idea. It is worth giving it a try. I get the impression that you are going to plant all of them at the same time. You might want to wait until they sprout and train them to the outside of the cage. You were also worried about rot on the bottom, I...
I grow mine in compost and leaves. In the third row from the left there is fence around the potatoes. I lay the seed potatoes on the ground, cover them with about 6" of compost and when they start to grow I add leaves, until the bin is full. The leaves settle to about half the height. At...
I think I am going to plant tomorrow, as soon as I shovel the 2 ft of snow out of my garden. :)
The pic is a little blurry but my arms were tired from shoveling.
