I've been misting mine once a day with the tea. Found the instructions in a book that has temporarily disappeared. They recommended the misting to inhibit the fungus on the surface and also recommended adding it to the water when watering from the bottom.
I think the recipe was 10-12 teabags...
Got my peas and potatoes in yesterday. Went to Lowes for plumbing parts and came home with 3 raspberries. Amazing how I can forget to detour to get light bulbs, but can't possibly forget the garden dept!
Thanks for sharing eBirds. It may cut down on my phone bill since I usually call my dad at odd hours with such random thoughts!
The birds around here that really signal spring to us are the return of the turkey vultures and the Mississippi kites. Although, we had a pair of kites that never...
For everyone on "robin watch", they've made it to Amarillo! Had about 5 helping me in the garden this afternoon.
Anybody know where they spend the winter?
I'm doing raised beds out of these this year. They are freebie used feed tubs that my rancher BIL is happy to get out of his barn.
I've been cutting them in half and reassembling as the edging for the new beds. Had grand schemes on how to hold them together, but filling with dirt is doing the...
In addition to the air flow, which didn't seem to make much difference to the first batch of seeds last year, I've tried a sprinkling of cinnamon and misting with some super-strength chamomile tea. Of the two, the tea's showing the best results. Knock on wood, I haven't lost one of those...
Right now, I'm planting my fanny in the recliner. Earlier today, though, I planted lettuce, 2 kinds of radishes, carrots, 2 kinds of onions, bareroot strawberries and my 22 baby broccoli. If I ever move again, I've potatoes and peas to get in. :th
How can we (me) get sooo out of shape so quickly?
I'm turning into the community garderner! I've got several elderly/disabled friends that I asked for their veggie wish list since I've got plenty of space and what's an extra bed or two? :tools
For all of us, I've got onions, radishes, tomatoes (several varieties), bush beans and pole beans...
Living in wheat and cotton country, we've been inundated with the ad for a couple of months now. To answer seedcorn's ?, the thing that bothers me about $3/acre herbicide, is why does it cost so dang much in small sizes? Are plastic bottles REALLY that expensive?
Don't use it in the garden...
I think yours may be an Orange Sovereign, Thistle. It has to be my absolute fav, although I don't think I dislike any amaryllis!
I'm (im)patiently waiting for the bulbs from last year to decide they've rested long enough. The friend I got them from says his bloom between Easter and Mother's...
I joined the insanity, too, yesterday! Got my order from Bakers Creek last week and set up my shelves & lights and was trying hard, seriously :hu, to be patient. However, if everybody else is getting in gear... :weee
I've started some tomtoes, broccoli, basil, parsley and some flower seeds...
The other "secret" to growing rhubarb in hot places is lots and lots of water.
One of the most enormous (and productive) plants I've ever seen was growing on a downed log IN a river. I wish I could find the pics of that monster...it was over 5' tall and absolutely delicious. It appeared to...
I tried growing potatoes in containers last year and things were going nicely until we got a lot of rain. All my lovely tater plants suddenly keeled over.:hit After I was sure they were REALLY dead, I upended the containers to discover that what I thought was adequate drainage was nowhere near...
Just be sure to take a truck to get cattle panels. They aren't all that heavy, but they don't fold real well. ;) I repurposed a few last year for my pole beans & cukes, but hadn't thought about sandwiching tomatoes between them...have to try that.
Personally, I like the ones with the water resevoirs...I'm really bad about rembering to water on a frequent basis. Other than that, the best ones are the ones that are big enough for the plant and you think are pleasing to look at.
And :welcome
I have lots of it. We're starting to hit the end of it's season, but if you'll let me know how it needs to be processed/stored, I'll be happy to go gather it.
All my life, I've heard the farmers around here do nothing but cuss it. Never knew that it actually was good for people until I...
I've been having so much fun killing bugs and pulling weeds :lau that I don't want the joy to end too soon, so I 'm going to try some fall plantings this year.
Now, my question is...when do I put the stuff (mainly broccoli) that I start indoors out in the garden? Spring planting is kind of a...
Contrary to what "they" say, Granny Smiths make really good apple sauce and even better apple butter...but then I'm the kid who likes things a little tart!
If you can stand the tediousness of it (and have the time) they would make a scrumptious cobbler.
