Went to a chicken swap and came home with . . .

Oh they are so cute!! Congratulations! I keep thinking I want to get into rabbits, but I figure, we better get some stuff done that is 1/2 done before we start something new. (I don't know why...It's not like we've ever followed that principal before :D )

Lower leaves yellow on newly planted tomatoes

thanks Vfem! That was a lot of great information. Although I did mulch I think the 4+ weeks of rain was just too much. I hope the rest of you can save yours. Maybe I will get a bucket and plant some in that. We'll see how ambitious I am. The grandson (7months old) is here visiting. So...

    Give Thanks to the Meaties

We did our first pigs last year. They were amazingly easy to keep and tend. We raised 4. They were the easiest animals to raise thus far. We will be getting some more mid July. :D

    strawberry picking, stomping! and jam.

Funny because it is someone else and their child! I can imagine it was not funny to them. But you are right...in many years, certainly! They haven't even opened the U-pick berry places around me yet. I am quessing because of all the rain for the last 6 weeks. We are suppossed to have 3...

Did we do something really stupid - botulism

A few months ago there was a great deal on fresh garlic at my local store. I bought a bunch pretty cheap and brought it right home all pleased as punch. Took out several canning jars, put a mess of garlic inside and filled with olive oil. I though, "there, I will have some amazing garlic...

I am becoming a food snob!

I really am saddened by the whole peanut butter cups thing. But glad to see that some of you noticed too and it's not just me. I actually used to be a hard core fan of Bryers Ice Cream. (I LOVE ice cream!!!) BUT THEN...They changed the recipe! I actually wrote them a letter and explained...

I am pretty sure I was born under this "sign"....

Apparently we all just "prioritize" very well. Gardening is a time sensitive issue. Cleaning the house is not! :D

I am becoming a food snob!

dewdrops, isn't that so true! My sister says that she likes organic, farm raised, etc. But that all stops when it comes to meat! The last two times she has come to our house to eat, I have noticed that she didn't eat the meat and she is definately not a vegetarian!!! Once we were having a...

Lower leaves yellow on newly planted tomatoes

Mary, I probably could because realistically our growing season just started. But with this being airborne, I am afraid that the blight spors are already hanging around my yard and that new plants would just become infected. I don't know this to be a fact, just what I am thinking...

I am becoming a food snob!

And I think I'm ok with that! There are so many things that I used to eat and enjoy that were pre-packaged, pre-made, etc that I just don't like anymore now that we raise our own food and I make quite a bit from scratch. It's not that I don't want to like them. In fact, when I eat them...

    A Low-Down Dirty Weed

I feel bad for you all. That sounds like a rediculous weed! I don't think we have it around here. At least I haven't seen it. What we have is Burdock. It is near impossible to get rid of. Roots about a mile and a half long!! Break them off and they just come back with vigor.

Doing a Lot of Driving on Your Vacation this Year?

We don't go on vacation now that we have animals. We actually didn't before either. Hunting trips yes...vacation, no. It is just too tough to find someone reliable to tend to all of the different animals and their different needs. Great tips offered though for those who do get to go...

Lower leaves yellow on newly planted tomatoes

I have heard the same thing lesa. I really don't know what you could possibly do to prevent it? The dissapointing part is, I am pretty sure that I must have purchased the plants with it. Our neighbors are far, far away. (not really sure how far this can travel through the air) Oh well. I...

Lower leaves yellow on newly planted tomatoes

I am disgusted!! All 12 of my plants have turned yellow and appear to have blight. I am really not happy. What a waste of money. I purposely purchased these at a really nice nursery that has good stock to ensure good hardy plants. :( Well...not so much!!! And yes, Chickies Momma ducks...
