Some veggies doing well, however, some not so well. Need advice

Hi, Do you have any of the Rodale organic gardening books? Like the encyclopedia and others. They probably have them at your local library. They will have lots more advice than I can give, but I use lots of fish emulsion, bone meal and lots of leaves piled on as mulch. I pick up grass...

    Aphids, I think

Tomatoes can have white spots that are just part of the stem. They would turn into roots if they touch the ground or were covered in soil or mulch.

I don't like to let them get very big. They are much better to me small and crunchy.

    Need Potatoe Help

I grew up near Alexandria, LA and my dad always planted potatoes on Valentines Day. You could probably do it at the beginning of February. He never planted them in the fall, but I would try it.

The Any Wonderful Food You Made From Your Garden Today Thread!

Well, I had more of the green beans today, cooked with onions and new potatoes the way my mama used to. They were especially yummy. I picked my first ripe grape tomatoes and just ate them in the garden. Does anyone here know the book First Tomato by Rosemary Wells? It is one of my favorites.

I am interested in growing these also. Do they need full sun? Can they take a little shade? Are they long-lived?

Tonight, we had our first green beans sauteed with garlic. They were yummy. I really like getting stuff straight out of the garden and cooking it. I've got a few Juliet grape tomatoes that will be ripe in a couple of days. My big tomatoes are coming on strong but no sign of ripeness yet.

    Peas with no flavor

I have not been happy with the organic choice soil. I have used the potting soil in my pots this year and my plants look awful. I have started supplementing with terracycle worm poop but that does not seem to be helping much. I got some of the regular organic choice garden soil to put on my...

My hay bale vegetable bed and other pictures of my garden

This is the first time I've done this so I don't have a lot of experience but my plan is to put green beans in one half and squash and bush cucumbers in the other side. I had a 12 x 4 frame built for a raised bed which I had not gotten filled. I figured this was a good way to fill it up. As...

My hay bale vegetable bed and other pictures of my garden

Here is a picture of my hay bale bed so far. That is soaker hose spread all over it to keep it damp. It has rained so much lately we haven't really needed it. I wanted to get it planted this weekend but it may have to wait if it keeps raining. My English peas have just about played out but...

Fall Winter Garden - zone 7b

I'm near you in Georgia and I always have cold season gardens. Spinach, lettuce and all the different kinds of greens last through the winter. They slow down some when it gets really cold but start right back up in the spring. I keep mine mulched pretty heavily with leaves. I think it was in...

    best way to root?

Get yourself some rooting hormone and dust the cut area with this. Then put the cut pieces in sand or vermiculite and keep it damp until roots form. Once you get a good set of roots put it in a pot with potting soil, to let it get bigger or put it out in the yard where you want it. The...

Ok... Serious post this time. From chicken to garden.

You really don't have to do anything for the chicken poo and shavings to compost. Just give them a little space. You can buy little fence looking compost pile containers, and just dump your stuff in and let it sit. We only turn ours once a year and always have a nice pile of compost at the...
