We seal the wood with linseed oil (which is not only pretty and allows the natural beauty of the wood show through, but smells like heaven to me!). Each summer I give them a new coat. They should last 5 or more years, even here in the desert heat, and then we will make new ones.
I'm in Albuquerque, NM-zone 7a or 7b, depending who you ask. I don't see why rosemary wouldn't grow-so far I've talked to quite a few folks, and just about anything will grow in these wonderful contraptions (except corn and asparagus...). They not only protect against cold, but also wind (which...
As always, Steve, thank you!:D
I probably would have made this mistake. I am going to plant extra dill tomarrow so that I can have it on hand when the cucs arrive.
Mint jelly-great idea!
(and the cost of lamb is not a problem-vegetarian here!;)
I do have it in a container, and you are right-taller and non-sprawlier than the peppermint,spearmint and orange mint I have planted in the same container.
Lol! We had 40-60 mph gusts the other night, and they didn't budge. We thought we might put in a latch to help secure the lids when they are shut, but so far no problems.
Here are some of our raised bed gardens;
Note the two diff. covers-one allows the trapping of more heat. We kept it on over the winter, and were able to grow spinach,lettuce,broccolli and herbs all winter long.
Another view of two planters, along with the two tiered planter we just...
I think I might freeze some, but I love the idea of hanging to dry. We have a dtorae shed out back-too many bugs might be a problem (?). I could use our laundry room,too....
Sorry-I just meant the dill. We gobble the radishes right out of the dirt!
So I just leave the dill out on the counter to dry, or put it straight into the jar? Or do I have to use a dehydrater?
This year we've planted qiote a bit of cucs and dill, in the hopes of making our slightly famous homemade pickles. Any tips to keep the many problems they can have at bay. All input welcome!
:D
(P.S.
I'm planning on planting marigolds,radishes and dill around them...)
I was just reading that dill and radishes are good companion plants around cucumbers. We have quite a bit planted, even though we do go through a lot, and I was wondering what/how to store the excess. Thoughts?:)
