I currently have mine in a container, and it seems really spindly and maybe isn't as suited to a windowsill (southern facing) as the oregano, for example, seems to be? It probably doesn't help that I overwatered it a tad... :hide
Ridgerunner already addressed the shade issue, which was going to be my one useful contribution to this discussion. ;)
Regarding watermelon. I'm not sure what can be done with the fruit itself in terms of long term storage, but I do know that the rinds can be pickled. And it actually tastes...
Hey, green smoothies are healthy and delicious, provided you don't overdo it with mustard greens or arugula or something equally spicy/bitter. :sick
I think we'll try letting them dry out a bit, and see if that's the problem before putting them in the ground. They look pretty sad, and it's been...
We're trying to get our kale started indoors, and the seedlings are looking sad, to say the least. Is it better to seed kale directly into the ground? Does anyone else have experiences, good or bad, with kale starts? We think maybe the roots are too damp... :( Kale is my favorite smoothie...
We're going to give red kidney, black, and pinto beans a shot this year. Anyone have any advice on growing these sucessfully in a wetter, cooler climate? I'll admit to not knowing too much about them (well, except eating them!) :hide
Any ideas on roughly how many pounds per plant(s) can be...
I really appreciate you directing your comments so specifically to my situation. BF has just informed me that he tried planting the seeds in one of our greenhouse beds, the one that's made entirely of "Mel's Mix," from last year's square foot gardening experiment. So, lots of compost...
Thanks for the encouragment. :) It's just that last year, the carrots never came up. So this year, we're understandably concerned. Is there some sort of trick to carrots? I've never thought of them as a "difficult" veggie, but maybe I'm wrong? :hu
Thread revival! :celebrate
Okay. Our carrots went into the ground 2-3 weeks ago. We live in Northwest Washington, zone 8, and always seem to have trouble getting carrots to come up. Our climate is fairly wet; even in the summer, we can't get around it very well. Help? Perspective? Anyone have...
Okay, yesterday I finally got some starts! The nursery was packed, though (day before Mother's Day, and all that), so I walked out without realizing I'd forgotten cilantro. Oh well, I'll pick it up another time. For now, I have:
Greek Oregano
Sweet Marjoram
Rosemary 'Corsicus' - it's a...
You all are so helpful! :happy_flower
I've pretty much decided on Greek oregano, thyme that isn't lemon (maybe French, from what I've read on here), rosemary (perhaps a larger plant so I can harvest right away... I was pretty set on getting the upright rosemary, but I'm somewhat curious still...
Thanks for the warm welcome and the responses! We went to our local nursery yesterday, and I ended up coming out with a Mother's Day gift, but nothing for myself! I wanted to do a bit more research before I bought some starts. I figured buying the starts would get me ahead of the game...
Hi everyone! This new seed has a question. Or, okay, a lot of questions! ;)
I'm really new to gardening. It's really BF's realm of expertise, but I'd like to get my feet wet, so to speak. And since the kitchen is my realm of expertise, at least so far as he is concerned, I thought a culinary...
