I just got Johnny's and Cooks this week for the 1st time. I usually don't order from cataloges, I live a block from a feed and seed store that has seeds cheap. But, since I container garden I have to be a bit careful of what I buy. Not all varieties do well for me. I got more lettuce in...
I got an e-mail from Parks Seed that they were having a dollar seed sale. I spent a long time on that site. I prefer Burpee, but they are waaaaayyy more expensive. Any way, here is what I got and the price. Any suggestions or comments on the varieties are welcome.
1. Eggplant Rosa...
It is a glorious day here. Shorts and t-shirt weather until the sun dips. I am heading out to plant more lettuce, snow got the last few straggling plants from November. I put Coleus in the seed starter. Gotta get those peppers started ASAP. Last frost is the end of March and I am itching to...
Welcome!
I just moved out here in '05 from Randolph County. I taught at Eastern Randolph High School for 5 years. What kind of gardening are you doing/want to do?
Since I container garden, watering is a twice a day thing. I water before and after 7. This avoids the heat. I collect all the water I need from my air conditioner drip. The main unit is upstairs and there is a pipe that runs down the side of the house into a barrel. Since humidity is 100%...
We need to get all the parts checked out. The AG program was moved off campus so they can't use their greenhouse, but before that it was routinely used (before my time here). I think there is some automation, there were several switches and dials, but the power is turned off at the breaker...
What winter? I could have been in shorts yesterday. I think it was 50 today. This mountain girl isn't used to coastal weather.
A friend called and said the local big box diy had their Burpee display set up. I drove the 30 minutes to read packets. *sigh* I didn't buy any, but it was fun...
I set up a temp. probe to record temps today. The greenhouse was shut up and it was HOT in there.
I am thinking to start with leaf lettuce and radishes, zinnias and marigolds. I need to get it cleaned out, there is a canoe and scrap lumber (hmmm I am building a coop) along with a dozen fish...
I am obsessed. I can't get any papers graded for looking through garden websites and chicken websites. Aack, grades are due ASAP, exams start Tuesday. It isn't even time to plant and I don't even have a coop built, but I got the spring fever!
Our greenhouse is not heated. Maybe I won't worry about flower by date. I would like to have plants that would be 'ready' to take home by June. I can personally carry any veggies over through the summer. I only live a few blocks from school and watering will not be a problem once the...
I had so many tomatoes that I got to throwing them in freezer bags whole. I made sauce with them yesterday and they were still good. Peppers don't last long enough to freeze around here though.
I grow my carrots and tomatoes in containers. Beets and turnips would be too big (couldn't get enough in a container) I think. Green beans I don't know about. I can buy those around here for $1 a gallon freezer bag so I don't grow them. Carrots should not be started in a sep. container and...
Thank you Hencackle. I printed out the form and it is $15 for a 100 pack box. Even with a slightly lower germination rate, 100 packs will be plenty. That way we could just open the box and everybody chooses.
My grandmother is a genius at these things. I kill them so fast.....
She gives me a leaf to root every Christmas. So far it is still alive. This year's is purple and white. I hope I can keep it alive.
Hmm maybe a contest is a bad idea. I don't know any of these students yet. I don't know how many rival gang members I have either. That really complicates things.
I am sure I could work the scientific method into this-fertilize at different amounts. I still have a lot to think about...
