I've had many people tell me they remember me by my aviator on BYChickens. And all it was, was an unusual (but, not a one of a kind) egg. It sure would be neat to know what causes them to do that.
:welcome I'm busy at the other forums, especially BYCows, so I don't get here that much anymore. Maybe when I can actually start to see the garden and think about planting it I will make it over more again.
Okay, I went out and picked one that was more yellow than the orange and cut it open.
Would this be the correct stage to pick it at, if you still say summer squash?
The skin is hard enough that I can't make a mark in it with my thumb nail.
If they are gourds they are huge ones. The smaller one pictured must be about 1 foot.
There were others out there too so maybe I will see if I can cut one opened tomorrow and post pics.
I'm not sure about over pecting them but, somethings take up to two weeks to set.
If it doesn't, then there is directions with the boxed pectin on how to remake it.
I bought an acorn squash plant this year but, these are not acorn squash. Can somebody please tell me what they are?
They did end up planted by the pumpkins this year. Is it possible they crossed bred? I would have thought if that had happened they would have been round with both pumpkins and...
I've barely started the one here but, at BYC I have my home page showing my chickens off and telling how we started with them. Then I have a page for pictures of the chickens, there's a page where I keep misc. info that I gather that maybe useful to me or someone else in the future.-I often copy...
I wish mine only got walnuts every other year. They have walnuts every year.
Don't put your garden by the walnut trees. They are very toxic and your garden won't do well.
I love grass clippings for weed control! Put it one heavy and it keeps the weeds down and the moisture in! Plus it adds to the soil the next year after you work it in.
They are tasselling out. As for why they are shot, it could be lack of water, lack of fertilizer, to close to Black Walnut trees, or any other number of things. You need to re-evaluate the growing season so far and the area you have them planted in to really know why they might be stunted.
