We do freeze and can a variety of things for use during the year. It's pretty tough to be completely self sufficient though. Our store bought grocery list would be similar to the two of you folks also. Except...for the "SPAM".

I just might get rid of my two barn cats and pick up a few SLW's to do the job. I've heard of chickens going after mice, although mine don't seem to, but never heard of them going after squirrels. Great story and a very good laugh.

Well...we made it back from the reservoir today. Sunday evening it was perfectly clear for a great viewing of the Perseids. The wife woke me up around 2:00am, I told her we ought to wait until tomorrow night. We went back to sleep. Of course, the next evening was raining like cats and dogs. We...
Hi Monty,
At one time I had a 16' boat. We did quite a bit of trolling for walleye. We had to be watchful for the weather in such a small boat which I'm sure you are aware of yourself having fished on Lake Erie. I always enjoyed spending time out there but lost my "deck hands" as my boys grew...
I'm not one to give up easy like. I'll give it another go and see what happens. I did sign in with my account but how in the world your marker got moved is beyond me. To answer one of your earlier questions about the wine...nearly the entire Lake Erie shoreline in eastern Ohio thru Pa. and into...
Thanks Monty,
I'm sending the wife to Wal-Mart for a bag of play sand. We'll give it a go. As for rodents, I have a couple great mousers (cats) to take care of that problem.
Thanks again, Tony
Okay, I promise this is the last squash question I'll ever ask.
I've heard that monster pumpkin growers snip off extra potential baby pumpkins from their vines to maximize the growth of the one pumpkin. Should I be doing this to my Hubbard squash?? I want a really big one to show at the county...
I guess I'll toss my two cents in. I found the link to this site from BYC. I haven't noticed too much backbiting there, but it does exist on occasions. I actually haven't noticed any backbiting here at all, but then, I don't read all of the posts and I don't post too often.
I have a few...
Ridgerunner, Thanks for the link. Now I know what the female flower parts are called.
Ninny, After reading some of the later replies I agree with you, I am in similar company.
Thanks again folks, Tony
Morning all,
My Hubbard squash plant finally produced a female. She's three days old. This morning I found two more new ones. I did the hand pollinating by using a male flowers stamen. Is there a name for the female flower part?
I feel like I might be going crazy. Never in my life did I care...
