    My garden is pooped!!

I went out to do some garden clean up this weekend thinking that some of my maters are done...a lot of them are long, woody and about 2/3 stemless. Upon further inspection I realized that they all have leafed out again and are putting on new growth up at the tops! At what point to you yank the...

    Question about 'helping' the pollinators

I read on another post (and several others in the past) about helping along pollination by using a small paint brush eraser etc....so I was out in my garden determined that I will have more than 3 tomatoes of my darned Brandywine before the season is up. I took a small paintbrush and delicately...

What I've gathered from my garden recently! DUW. Seriously, lol.

Yummies & Mohawks...ok. I will keep my eyes open for seeds. They look delish! Feeding 20 people out of your garden huh? You should be proud. I remember early pics you posted when you just had new seedlings...now you really have an abundance. Amazing what I little work will provide huh? Thanks...

What I've gathered from my garden recently! DUW. Seriously, lol.

Pictures of your harvest are sure impressive! I love seeing them :) What are the peppers in the third pic, right in front of the eggplant? Also...what on earth are you doing with all those tomatoes?! Oh yeah...what does DUW mean?

    What can I do with.....

That sounds yummy...I thought it was Poblanos that were used in Chile Rellenos, but I guess many types could be used. I will give that a try!

    What can I do with.....

So I canned two different types of tomato mixtures today. I mixed halved yellow pear toms & quartered red toms, tossed them with olive oil, sea salt, pepper, garlic, balsamic vinegar and fresh chopped rosemary....roasted it up and divided it between two pints. Then I did a mix of halved...

    What can I do with.....

A million cherry tomatoes? I have yellow pear, Sun Gold and Rainbow cherries coming out my ears. Any way to preserve them? I am almost thinking I could toss them with some olive oil, salt & pepper and maybe some garlic and herbs...roast them and then can them for a simple pasta topping or...

So it didn't turnout/seal. No need to toss.

Yep you are right on the money! My goal for this summer was to learn how to can. First I made strawberry Lemonade concentrate...turned out way more berry than lemony...lesson learned: TASTE before canning ! Duh! Now when I mix it up I squeeze in an extra lemon and throw lemon wedges into the...

    Mushy Pickles?

Good advice everyone :) Pickling lime and ice bath will be happening in the next bath. Part of my problem is that it takes so dang long to get my water up to boiling...I think they cooked for an additional 30 mins just trying to get up to a rolling boil. Gotta work on that! Where do I get...

    Mushy Pickles?

I made my first batch of pickles using a mix from Walmart. The flavor is ok (will try from scratch next time) but the pickles are mushy. How do I avoid that next time? Also anyone have a good dill pickle recipe?

With the harvest heavily upon most of us now.....

Nice post and a good reminder to those of us who are new to canning. I want it to be fun, but I admit to being a bit tense about it all. Thanks for making me laugh :)

    Question about Swiss Chard

I planted some beautiful Swiss Chard...'Bright Lights' lovely reds & yellows. I was so excited when it started coming up as I had tried and tried and was down to the last of the seed, when finally it took! So here is my question, it is sour. I had heard that you could use the stalks as you...

What's causing this with my Corn? 5 pics!

Well I am certainly no expert but that may be blossom end rot. Add some crushed eggshells to the soil around the base of your Brandywines. When I planted all of my toms this year, I added a small handful of calcium to the soil and I have not had the problem at all. The egg shell will give your...
