fruit tree websites of value to a newbie!

I would love to try grafting my own apple trees. We have an old Beacon tree that is nearing the end of its life and I can't find them ANYWHERE. I've looked for places where I can buy just a few rootstocks but they all want to only sell massive quantities. I'm sending an email to Maple Valley...

    Moving a mature clematis

Has anyone had to dig up and move a mature clematis? Ugh I have a HUGE Ville de Lyon that I have to move to make room for my "new" greenhouse. I hate to have to do it - it is so happy where it is and it's one of my best clems. Wondering if anyone else has had success in doing this, or if I...

No one believed that I could do it...

I always start lemon basil from seed. I've never used any sort of heat and they've always sprouted just fine. Last year I also tried to start some rosemary, which sprouted just fine but then just stopped growing. Didn't die, just...stalled.

Need help with starting seeds *ADDED MORE PICS* pg. 3

I also use a small fan to blow on them for a little while each day. Helps them to develop stronger stems so that they aren't completely knocked over in the slightest breeze once they're outside.

Feeling sick about the coming spring

Thanks guys! Unfortunately I can't sue them because it's in the easement that they have the right to remove trees that are within a certain distance from the lines. This is something I've fought with them for YEARS over and have so far been able to convince them to just trim them (even though...

Feeling sick about the coming spring

I am so bummed out about the coming spring. The power company is re-building their lines, which happen to go across the south end of our property. I've been battling them for years over my mature ash trees, but this year they are cutting down two of them - they are right behind the house and...

    Mainiac Newbie, take 2

Hi and welcome! I'm new here too. But already becoming addicted! ;) I've been toiling in the gardens for years and still don't have the answer for weed control. My arch nemesis is quack grass...the stuff is EVERYWHERE in my gardens! I tried raised beds for the first time last summer - I'm...

So cool! My neighbor used to have a regular pussy willow. When I was a kid I was always just fascinated by it. I love the weeping form!

Wow, that's awesome! Digits, do you border your beds with anything to keep the soil from washing out when it rains?

    Raised beds/frames

Last summer I gave the Square Foot Gardening thing a try and we built 2 beds that are 4' by 4', 6" deep, and 4 1' by 6' beds (also 6" deep). They all worked really well for what I grew even with just 6" of soil. I didn't grow any root vegetables though. Of course you can always make them...

    New girl on the block!

No, no plans yet. My hubby brought home two huge 5'x5' windows, and can get more, so I was looking for ideas on how to turn them into one.
