I planted herb seeds on February 4th and all of them had little sprouts by February 7th. I'm using a heat mat but no grow lights so I was amazed that I have already seen signs of life. There are sprouts in every single cell of the tray now. I am so happy! My brother said there was no way I could do it since herbs can be pretty finicky- boy did I show him! I will be starting my tomatoes and peppers on March 1st so we will see how that goes. Is anyone else having luck growing herbs from seed?

Good for you!! Most seeds do not require light to germinate- so you will probably want to add some now...Your peppers will enjoy that heat mat. Very hard to get them to germinate without it. Enjoy your seed starting!!

Congrats! I started mine on the 5th and I have Thyme, Oregano, Marjoram and Basil sprouting. My chives aren't growing yet. I had trouble with it last year but I am hoping for a better turn out this year.

I ordered some lemon basil because I tried my old seed and it is a no go. I am also waiting for garlic chives. I am putting in a new, LARGER herb bed this year so I am trying to figure out where to plant what. This is such an exciting time of the year. I have been repotting sage and every time I do I can smell the sage and it is so wonderful.

I always start lemon basil from seed. I've never used any sort of heat and they've always sprouted just fine.

Last year I also tried to start some rosemary, which sprouted just fine but then just stopped growing. Didn't die, just...stalled.

I think rosemary is one of the harder herbs to grow from seed. I haven't tried them because I am not crazy about rosemary (Yes I am the one). I don't use heat for my stuff. One thing that I do have though is my plant growing stand is right above our furnace register so warm air does come up though so it is getting some heat.

I was in there repotting my sage which is finally done (I ran out of pots and had to get more) I noticed that I have a couple of teeny tiny chive spout. I am keeping four and I have 21 to find homes for my sage. I can't believe I have a book that says that sage is harder to start from seed. It is crazy growing in my kitchen.

By the way, I still have a good bit of seed left so let me know if anyone wants some. I will definitely send you some!
