This year I planted potatoes in a shallow trench and covered them with straw. Since this was a trial run I planted only a small patch. It worked out great. All I had to do was pull aside the straw and pick up the potatoes. No potato fork, No digging, no impaled potatoes. I plan on expanding...
Looks like Savannah, Georgia which is where I will be visiting for the next 5 days. I love Savannah, plus I get to visit with my son. :celebrate:weee:ya
I have comfrey. It has not taken over my garden. I started out with a small plant from a friend and it is now about a foot and a half across. The bees love it. It looks great in my garden.
When we had a dog we had no problem with deer. Now that we have no dog we have had to resort to an electric fence. If I ever get chickens I would like to try a chicken moat. That's a chicken run that surrounds your garden. It's about 6 feet high and about 4 to 5 feet wide. The chickens eat...
Hi BackyardCritter from Indiana. I'd love to see some pictures. You have a great start on the season. I only have cabbage, broccoli and peas planted because of all the rain.:frow
Hi CurlyKate,
Yes, we are neighbors. I'm in Franklin County, north of you. If it stops raining late tomorrow afternoon I might be able to plant, but I work until 4:30PM. Thanks for the heads up. I did pot Sweet William and two kinds of hot peppers.:frow
Looks like I won't be planting my tomatoes today. Rain Rain Rain Rain! The forcast is for rain until Thursday. Argh!!!:barnie Oh well, I can still get my flowers started in pots.:thumbsup
Now that the garden is dry enough, I planted 32 cabbage plants and 50 broccoli. Tomorrow the tomatoes will go in. I don't know how the cabbage and broccoli will do since they should have been planted weeks ago but we shall see. At least we're done with the downpours we have been having. It...
Hi Collector,
I would think it depends on what you want to plant. The three way mix would be good for root crops (easier to extract from the soil) such as carrots, turnips, beets, etc. But either one sounds like a winner. You get compost for the garden and it's FREE!:thumbsup
Hi BigBad,
I have never had that problem since I have a large garden 45 X 60. I also put the grounds and tea leaves in the flower beds. I guess too much of a good thing can hurt. What's the saying, "Everything in moderation." The grounds are not so much for the plants as for the worms and...
Hi Bigbad,
I have used coffee grounds and tea leaves directly in my garden. You can put them around the base of your plants. I am not familiar with espresso but if the coffee grounds are hard I would break them up so you can sprinkle them around. I save the grounds from the coffee pot at...
