Hi everyone,
I am planning on trying out the 3 sisters method of growing corn, beans, and squash together this year. Any tips? When should I plan the different seeds? I have already started the squash indoors. I am rototilling the garden on thursday and then I think I will put in the corn...
Ok - so here is my new idea for creating garden beds from grass without having to cut sod. I am going to spread horse manure thickly over the top and then cover with a tarp for 9 months until everything is rotten - then I am going to rototill it all in next spring.
Do you guys think this is...
I am thinking about getting a rototiller. I have approx. 10,000 sq. ft of garden and need something to help with the tilling. I am thinking about getting a Husqvarna CRT. Either that or the Troy-Bilt Bronco. What do you guys think???
The horse manure has no straw - i think it is some sort of wood shaving.... How long until it is usable? I am sure it has urine- what do you mean by carrier? How should I compost the manure to make sure tons of weeds don't grow out of it? I was thinking about letting it sprout and then...
Hey everyone,
I have unlimited access to horse manure and have just taken about 3500 sq feet of sod out of the garden. Any suggestions on how to compost these... Right now I just have a gigantic pile of both... Should I layer it... Unfortunately, I have no heavy machinery to make things...
thistleboom - so just composting horse manure was hot enough as long as you kept it moist and turned over? How long did it take?
freemotion - what do the chickens do, turn it over?
Thanks for the help!

Hey everyone,
I now have access to a lot of free horse manure, but it does have small amount of small gravel in it ( I would say 0.5%). Do people think this is:
a) good for drainage
b) bad for the garden
c) it will make no difference
I would appreciate your thoughts!!

This sheet is amazing!! Thanks so much!! I just switched it two weeks earlier for western washington! One quick question though, I didn't really get what the column: "# Wks to set out vs. frost free date" meant? Can you clarify this for me? Again, THANK YOU!!
