    Tomato question

I am in the process of canning the Romas that have finally come in and the recipe says add lemon juice to the jars. Can I use vinegar instead? I woul think so- they are both acid. I think for the finished product I would prefer the vinegar taste to lemon. How much vinegar compares to lemon juice?

Pickle recipes handed down in my family, here for you

I have done 2 batches of dill pickles with what sounds very similar to your second recipe- I am waiting to taste them! Great idea for saving the brine- I was having trouble with saving cukes to make a batch and not having them get soft before I had enough to put up. I was thinking of ways to...

I have heard somewhere that one can grow potatoes vertically by starting a plant in a...

    Self-sufficiency . . . have you thought about it?

Very interesting post to spend my morning reading- thank you all for the civil intelligent discussion. (so many times internet "discussions" degenerate) I don't think in today's society that it is feasible to be self-sufficient entirely. It is a worthwhile goal to limit one's footprint on the...

New Here - Wandered over from BYC!

Ha! Another BYC-er toddling over to see what people are growing. Since I can't do anything myself. I have packets of veggie seeds and peat pellets and the little plastic greenhouse, but it is still too early up here to even start anything in the house- I've done that before with not so good...
