I share your reasons for growing beans! However, the growing has surpassed the eating by an impractical margin:oops:. Based on the extensive growing lists that have been shared by many, I can't be the only one with this dilemma. So, can we talk about favorite ways to eat all these beautiful...
This is my first year growing network beans, and I planted all the seeds provided. Like you, my history with beans gave me no reason to be cautious. I propose we relax and enjoy the bean season, assuming our luck will hold! :)

One of the network varieties I attempted this year, Ijevan Black Cherry, has failed to germinate. This beside so many other varieties of legumes, in a number of categories, that have done well. Is anyone trying Ijevan Black Cherry? Any luck so far?
I purchased seeds by this name from another source, and it's not the same as Hana Mame. Just slightly oversized runner bean in appearance. I plan to grow them next year anyway.
Nobuko confirms that "aka" refers to red, "shiro" to white, and "hana" to flower. The rest of the name of that hyacinth bean might be revealing. 'Murasaki" means purple, she says.
Ooo, look! She found a link to a source for the real deal...
Thanks for sharing the results of your digging. After receiving the seeds, I don't think we have the real deal. Just too small to be the beans Nobuko is familiar with. Ah well, I'll grow them and try her family recipe with them anyway.
I love to cook, and have fair competence, but I've never...
You are very generous. I ordered a white variety through Amazon, from a source called Caribbean Garden. The Kitazawa seed I have on order is called Akahana Mame, and I'm hoping it's the same as Hana Mame. The description of use is the same as my housemate reports. The recipe is simple and...
Greetings, bean growers! I'm in mid-Michigan, and looking forward to next season already.
I wonder if anyone has experience with a bean called Hana Mame, or Flower Bean. My temporary housemate is Japanese, and describes these very large pole beans (1-2 inches wide), eaten as a sweet dessert...
Lurker here. My Boldog Paprika plant set beautiful fruit, but two consecutive nights of frost sent me scurrying to harvest, even though they weren't ripe. In 3 days, I've seen little change in color. Should I go ahead and dehydrate them? Will they make any flavor contribution to my paprikash and...
I've had the enormous good fortune to be able to invest in a team of restoration experts to help. They have literally transformed the landscape in the last 3 years. By far the best choice I've ever made. I still won't run out of stuff to do. I hope to be active in this landscape for 2-3 more...
I'm retired, and continue to work on converting 20 acres from honeysuckle infested forest to natives. I also raise Buckeye chickens and have pet goats, to compliment my vegetable gardening an brush removal efforts. I'm a wildlife enthusiast, with a particular soft spot for birds and invertebrates.
