    Fingerlings vs "Normal"

would fingerlings be a better choice of potatoes for something like home fries then? also my potatoes have started to develop flower bulbs. I'm quite excited. As I understand it I'm between one and two months away from harvest. I just might be able to grow potatoes successfully here in PR. I...

    Topsey Turvey!!

LoL well my tomatoes have begun to produce flowers. They seem small, and growth is definitely stunted. I think the gallon can only support one tomato plant to full size.

HR 875 Anyone else Freaked Out by this??

I think thats a damn good idea. if you provide me with more details I will draw up a chain letter, and distribute it to my activist friends. See if i cant get this plan into the offices of congressmen all over the country. its a great capitalistic solution. I'm convinced that we dont have to...

So, what likes my jalapeno pepper plant so much?

This morning i noticed three pepper plants in my garden had been munched down to the stem with the leaf spines sticking out like some sort of sadistic christmas tree. The garden was littered with familiar little turds. yesterday a stray dog was running down the street with a dead rabbit in its...

    Avocadoes maturing out of season

In my zone avocados come in mid to late summer and are usually gone by December. There is a tree on my property has started blooming in late summer, and just gave the last of its fruit two weeks ago. Is this an anomaly or are there specific cultivars that will just come in at different times of...

HR 875 Anyone else Freaked Out by this??

When that argument was put to me originally (I posed it to myself), my answer was similar in nature but different. They are elitists, their whole life mission is to enjoy doing what they stop others from doing, because the lesser castes are not capable of doing it responsibly. About the vets...

Do you prefer seeds or plants?

I tend to buy herbs started already. I have bad luck with small seeds. lettuce is still a problem for me, but herbs are worse. Only chives have worked out for me.

HR 875 Anyone else Freaked Out by this??

I tend to be against anything labeled with the word global, or globalization. The UN is constantly scraping for power over the free citizens of sovereign nations. In the spirit of compromise, some of the items seem to be alright, its just a matter of how far this scientific research takes them...

    Xanthosoma...

certain varieties produce edible corm mass that in Puerto Rico at least are refered to as Malanga and Yautia. Its closely related to Taro. Via google, i have not been able to find much good information on growing the plants for the purpose of food. By chance, does anyone here have any experience...

Do you prefer seeds or plants?

i like growing from seeds. I like watching plants progress from seed to sprout to flower and fruit. Its about as close as we come to magic in this world.

    Fun and Easy Garden Signs

I have a sheet of plywood hanging around. I could cut it into a bunch of those, and post them around the yard with plant names and fun stuff, like Taggart Transcontinental or Reardon Steel, or d'Anconia Copper.

    cross pollination

when i first came to Puerto Rico my grandfather had several large bushes, like 4 or 5 feet tall of some peppers that looked to me like squash peppers, here in PR they call them aji dulce. Well I never understood how one bush could have the most delightful little sweet peppers, and another, not...

    White House gardening

I am probably on the list, and they are probably very aware of me as they probably don't have any information on me. I own no assets, no drivers license, no bank account, no credit card. not much of anything at all.

    White House gardening

LoL Funny, gun sales go up 60% and its all over the news. Seed sales go up 80% and no one mentions a thing. I guess the news media hasn't seen the report that links survivalism and self sufficiency to domestic terrorism yet. maybe the government hasn't fabricated that report into existence...

How to finish wood for raised beds

I love wood finishing. I love the smell of stain first thing in the morning. I'd give it two coats of stain, something that will look good in your yardscape, and then throw as many coats of poly on it as you deem necessary. I put at least two coats on interior woodwork.

HR 875 Anyone else Freaked Out by this??

LoL This is why I opted to drop out of the discussion regarding the OCA and Capitalism. I play too rough as a result of spending too much time discussing politics on the myspace US Politics forum. Especially when the discussion encroaches on self determination, self sufficiency, self reliance...
