Monday & Tuesday, my DH and I (yes, my DH helped :lol: ) canned 20 pints of pear butter. I reserved some of the puree to make a Gingered Fresh Pear Cake. I think I will also slice some pears for the dehydrator.
I have a drawer that I keep my "around the house clothes" in. It's full of shorts, tank tops, t shirts, jeans and sweatshirts. I just grab whatever the weather calls for.
Mine are usually ripe by the first 2 weeks of September. (Timed perfectly when yellow jackets come back, too) Some of the smaller ones are still pretty hard, but I'll let them set for a few days to soften up.
and wasps to pick pears. So far, I have almost 2 bushels. I think I have about half of them. As it got warmer, the bees really started swarming. Luckily no stings, but a yellow jacket did bite me :rolleyes:
I'm going to wait until this evening or early in the morning to get the rest.

You could also try bird netting. Its very inexpensive and can be purchased at Lowes, Home Depot, etc.
Although, I don't know if chickens would get tangled in it.
