    I would. An old pair of hose would work great. Slip the melon into the open end and tie it to the cage. The hose will expand as your melon does.

    Monday & Tuesday, my DH and I (yes, my DH helped :lol: ) canned 20 pints of pear butter. I reserved some of the puree to make a Gingered Fresh Pear Cake. I think I will also slice some pears for the dehydrator.

    Garden Attire

    I have a drawer that I keep my "around the house clothes" in. It's full of shorts, tank tops, t shirts, jeans and sweatshirts. I just grab whatever the weather calls for.

    Whew, just braved the yellow jackets ...

    Mine are usually ripe by the first 2 weeks of September. (Timed perfectly when yellow jackets come back, too) Some of the smaller ones are still pretty hard, but I'll let them set for a few days to soften up.

    You could also try bird netting. Its very inexpensive and can be purchased at Lowes, Home Depot, etc. Although, I don't know if chickens would get tangled in it.

    We found one the same way - covered with eggs. I gave it to the chickens and they (the lucky 2) enjoyed it, eggs and all.
