I purchased some 12 inch long Kabob bambo skewer sticks and I'm sticking them down into the cups and taping the stems to the sticks to support the leggy plants. Today was the third day indoors and tomorrow it looks to be partly cloudy and the beans will go outside in my backyard. I hope I can...
I was able to put these emerging seedlings in the sun Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Exposed them to at least 8 hours of sun on these days. Then suddenly it turns cold and rainy and I didn't want them outside. Some of them have become very leggy really fast. I hope the weather turns sunnier really...
Many beans could be several centuries old. They are probably the product of stablized crosses that have happened over time. Some beans could be newer. When people in the western hemisphere began deomesticating beans from wild beans. How many kinds could there have been. Certainly not as many...
Sunday the llth of May I set up my 192 styro cups with potting mix and seeds. I watered them the next morning and by that Firday the 16th of May they were starting to come up so I took all 11 racks outside for a day of sun. 8 hours of sun for 3 days. I brought them in by 6:00 pm (1800). The same...
Yes I have noticed that once my beans become about 30 days old the rabbits here don't show any interest in the beans anymore. Perhaps your Brassicas are a stronger lure for your rabbits and they rather have that than beans. Gives your beans time to grow out of that attractive stage.
Rabbit's Yikes is right ! I buy this vinyl lattice at Manards. Don't know if Manards is in Canada. Comes in 2 feet wide by 8 feet long sections. Expensive but once you bought it you will have it for countless seasons. I use it to make rabbit fences. If I didn't rabbits would really ruin my bean...
Welcome SusanneinHastings,
So nice to see you made it over here. I think you will enjoy this group of bean growers. You will feel like you gained another family.
Hi @beandip79
Welcome to TheEasyGarden. There are some fine communities here. Bean people are the ones I hang out with mostly. I think you probably can find every type of gardening under the sun in all the threads. You are invited to come on over to the Little Easy Bean network. Glad you have...
Some more recent bean mail. This is a beautiful bean I ran across about two weeks ago. From a grower in Pescadaro, California. The grower says the bean is a cross between Anasazi and Rio Zape. I believe it is a pole bean.
Anna Zape - Pole Dry
The way this weather has been this month of April. One day like summer the next day like winter again. We could be in for a tricky May. I have planted bush dry beans the first day of July and harvested dry beans from them the same time as bush dry beans planted around the end of May. July is...
Has nothing to do with my tiller width. I am using 48 inch wide weed barrier fabric this year. So I want to have a little open soil so I can also lay down soaker hoses near the plants so the water will go into this narrow channel of open soil and water their root zone.
In some past seasons I...
These are beans what William Woys Weaver the food historian wanted me to obtain for him. He tells me that Massey is a bush snap bean and Fine de Villeneuve he says is a pole snap bean. I''m going to grow them out for him and send him the new seed. Whatever they turn out to be is what I will tell...
Will the sun fade those tags to the point where they can't be read. Might not be a bad Idea to do a word processing file and type out your layout of where every variety is planted. I don't put any tags in my bean gardens I have it all down on the word processor text file. Below is a scan of my...
So Guy Dirix post this information on facebook about this bean with the upside down exclamation mark.
It is a bush bean from Cusco-Peru , from the gene bank CIAT -Colombia- In 2016.
Lieven Decrick from Pepingen-Belgium- noticed this bizarre bean in the lists of CIAT. He obtained seeds and sent...
My name and address is on the Package Inventory list. It's also on the sheet that identifies my account. My account number is on the Green/Yellow label so they can look me up on their computer system. Artorious thinks he forgot to put my address label that I print out and include with the...
Some bean mail today from Artorious. So his package went through the USDA inspection routine and was forwarded to me. Artorious thought he didn't even use my return address labele that I sent him last year. So heirloomgals package is I think somewhere. If my chance it got caught in a bin with...
I'm going to guess that the seeds with flattened ends will repeat. You might have two slightly different strains of this bean. Rounded ends and flattened ends. I have gotten this bean too but 4 seeds from Gabriel Hess in Switzerland.
