What Did You Do In The Garden?

In my case using chemical sprays for weeds is a bit more complicated than spot spraying a dandelion in cracks in my driveway. There are different needs for different areas and for different types of weeds. Which indeed I do use chemical sprays along my driveway because it is half a block long...

Official TEG Poll: What’s Your Biggest Landscaping Challenge?

When the garden bug first bit me I tried my best to plant beautiful trees , shrubs available in the nearby stores. They never survived very long. Here’s why. I amended the hard pan clay soil the first year and amended the 2nd year and amended again the 3rd year. It seemed the hard pan clay...

    Ducks ALIVE in 2025!

That is also a very good thing to do to keep the stock animals hydrated and the water clean. Rubber ducks and gold fish in stock tanks are great at keeping water fresh especially with a water filler function attached to a hose and faucet.🤠 Just add a plant or two not scrumptious for stock...

What Did You Do In The Garden?

In the PNW we have invasive ivy with trunks as big as trees…I just put a bucket over the area where most of the upper portion of the plant is removed and root’s dislodged from the main plant. This robs the plant of sun & water. By the next season it’s compost. This is how I get rid of that...

    Ducks ALIVE in 2025!

In my experience with cats inside and outside… they have never tried to get to the pond fish. Water is deep enough and the fish hide in cracks / crevices in rocks in the pond. A small water fall helps the water move to improve oxygen content in the water and a bio filter keeps the water stay...

I rarely get to hot inside my home. I have planted trees around to help cool my home which is heavily insulated to save electricity. Hopefully the trees will continue to do their job cooling the entire home and garden area by 10-20 degrees . Trees contribute to cooling the environment through...

Official TEG Poll: What’s Your Late-Summer Garden Focus Right Now?

This is the time of year I stay busy fending off wild animals like deer, elk, ground squirrels, and grasshoppers and several more critters to numerous to name from seriously damaging plants or helping themselves to what amounts to them as a salad bar loaded with goodies. They usually bring the...

    Ducks ALIVE in 2025!

Sounds like a great project. There is also a clacker made of bamboo and water hit the post attached then the bottom bamboo pops back up once the water had filled the bottom post. The noise from the clacker also helps keep raccoons and birds from snacking at the pond. Some ponds have deep...

What Did You Do In The Garden?

There’s a lot of deer hunters during the season in Oregon too. However , it’s illegal to hunt anywhere near here. I’ve chased many deer off down the road on my rider mower using my air gun the sound scares them off, but they are usually right back the next day. Some times we play hiding go seek...

What are some of your favorite bloomin trees any season.

I don’t know about Cherokee dogwoods. I have looked up they grow in zones 5-9. I grow two dogwoods in my garden and they have bloomed yearly . Always a nice tree for spring blooms with pink bracts covering the tree. Late summer red seed pods are visible calling birds in the area.
