The end begins!
It's bittersweet, always sad to see the summer end but happy to harvest seeds. There also have a few stragglers that are not yet letting go of their green color; Domaci Cucak (below), Custodia (below, left), Ukrainian Pole, Pink Tip Greasy, Malawi Mix, Gialet, mostly those...
Went around to all the pole bean plants today and collected dry & semi-dry pods anywhere I found them. The harvest is really starting, and boy it feels great. It feels like that part of trick or treating when your bag is really starting to fill up and you're just itching to get home and dump...
Some fall bean picks.
I am loving the 'Grady Bailey Greasy' from @Decoy1, boy this has been an impressive variety. In a year like this it really stands out; I was worried it was taking awhile to turn from green but it finally started this week. My first greasy!!! And dependable for the North...
I'm shocked that the poppies kept going until now, mid September! These I'm sure are the very last flowers though. The plants are awful looking when drying, but that's the price I'll pay to collect the seeds.
First 'Hamburg Parsley' plants. I'm impressed that they bulked up so much, didn't...
I misspoke there @Branching Out, I always get Maglia Rosa and Pink Tiger mixed up. I meant Pink Tiger, they look very similar. I can't recall what leaf type Pink Tiger had when I grew it, but a cursory search says it can have spindly foliage.
I wonder too @Triffid. And I don't find that family of curly beans necessarily similar on all counts. Some of them seem extremely early and others, like the photo I posted, are quite late. Certainly variation in colors, seeds & most of all maturity. And there are both bush and pole...
Sorry to hear that @jbrobin09. It's been a difficult bean year for me as well. It's good luck you planted Carminat, one of the earlier beans that is really good quality. I know I sent some of them to a fellow SODC member who is really into fresh beans, and she thought it was one of the best...
Curly beans this year. For the life of me I can only vaguely recall the tag tonight, 'Aloisia Mar....' something. Can't think of it, and google can't either. Whatever the name, it is such a pretty bean. I'll update this post once I look at the tag.
'Karntner Secherslein'
Tomato 'Pink Champagne' has blown my mind with it's production. Given that it's in a pot, and has received the bare minimum of both care and nutrients it really yielding well. In ground this would seem average, but constricted in a pot typically drives the production way down. I couldn't...
I used to not care much about world events and politics. And then I had kids, and all that changed. The future matters to me more than ever now. Very sad my children won't have a world with Charlie Kirk leading the way.
My apologies to any other international network growers, that I may not be correct about the Zonos App, it may just be a Canadian situation. It's possible other countries have different postal arrangements with the US. When I saw that Zonos is Australian based, I made the assumption it...
If I can do it without the photo, I will, I think that's an option. Whatever the case, I'll find a crafty way to make sure the beans get to you @Blue-Jay! I've got a wily mind like that. ;)
I had all the plans in the world to deal with all those tomatoes out there today. As everyone knows, tomatoes are not patient and won't wait until you have time to get to them. I started first by rinsing all the many bottles of seeds that were done fermenting, because those were the most...
