I give mine old tea bags, coffee grounds, kitchen compost stuff, oranges, clippings, etc. Today I drained the tea and put it around the new plants I put in. There were TONS of little white babies wriggling around in there, not to mention a few pepper seedlings that must have started from the...
I've seen them as full 6' plus 'hedge' bushes, grown from the little 6" pot from the holidays. Only thing I fear about having them is the toxicity to animals. and that they are ugly until winter
I got a big box of lily "bulb" on clearance at The Home Depot that I put in the back of the cabinet. They weren't bulbs, they were albino plants! there was no way I could get them separated so I just set the whole sad mess in. I could see lots and lots of tiny seed bulbs all over the place...
I was hoping the "good" snails would take care of the bad ones :/ but in the meantime, I guess I can continue to pick the brown snails and give them to my ducks. Even the chickens get in on the action, it's just wet, cold and slimy work.
I have (2) mulberry trees that get the several-inch-long berries. It's called a Persian Mulberry - could that be what you were looking for? They grow several inches long and get a little thicker than a pinkie finger.
When we people eat eggs, I squash the shells and put them in the pile. Last time my neighbor put his green waste out for pick up, I emptied it into my pile - I cannot believe ANYONE would ever want to get rid of avocado leaves! They are AMAZING!!! I have a lot to do this weekend for the...
A few years ago I bought a couple pounds of decolate snails. Their population has exploded, but nary a dent was made in the brown snail population. What happened? I thought they were supposed to eat the brown snail eggs and babies? I find them side by side on plants, now. I DON'T want to...
Yesterday I got the old cabinet I decided to use for herbs in place and half filled with material. Just need another round of good soil to go in and I can start my herbs.
Weeded out a large patch of the yard
cut back a big portion of my purple daisies and weeded the walkway that it grows...
In the spirit of your request, I, too, would pick greenhouse. The ability to harvest more food from it would be more appealing than what I could do with a beehive, since it's more limited. The goal, though, would be for both so I'll keep my fingers crossed so you are able to.
I'm a bit green with envy over the yard my 4H project leader has - 2.5 acres and lots of wild chamomile on it!! I just bought a bunch of seeds so I will see what I can do to get my tea garden going.
I noticed a wild one in the dirt near my dragon fruit, but the slimers got to it and it it...
Much to my husband's chagrin, I took an old cabinet, removed the doors, set it on it's back and filled it with compost, fresh green for decomposting, organic amended soil, and am getting ready to put seeds in it. I've been battling the gophers for so long and my raised beds aren't building...
I'm sorry to hear about Hoodat - I thought for sure he would be the one with the answers. I'll say some words on his behalf.
In the meantime, I'll just play it by ear, I guess.
Thanks for the looks on the thread, though - maybe others will stop by and offer advice.
Yes, the is another...
I just purchased a few seeds for Cassabanana (Sicana Odorifera) and was wondering what the best location would be in my yard and when I should sow the seeds. I'm in North San Diego County - Vista - and we have a great climate. Because of the potential for extreme growth, I know I want to put...
Yep! Isn't it great? Mine get so tall and spindly that I routinely just cut and root then replant! I'm going to start that with all my herbs. Have rosemary cuttings in some water right now :)
It should produce, it just may not be the kind you thought it would be.
I have one right now from a pit I bought in Vermont. My husband and I call it Burl since we got it in Burlington. The tree is over 2" now. It's ready to be planted in the ground but I have to mae a gopher cage, first to...
My pig used to eat them. Since Ham Solo is no longer with us (he went to a galaxy far, far away) I would just compost....or toss to the chicks and ducks for them to play with a little then leave in their yard to break down.
I have three yard cats and they don't even put a dent in the problem. Out here everyone has an acre or more and most of that is not utilized for anything so the gophers are rampant. I LOVE Macabee traps but the ground is so hard, getting them in the hole is a big problem. So my only real...
