    Cooking Roasts

we do chuck roasts in the crock pot. other than the first fry to brown we don't do much else other than put onions and mushrooms in there and then at the end put some cream of mushroom soup in for gravy (we both like mushrooms a lot so it works as a quick gravy instead of dealing with the flour...

    Your Weather, 2026

we have a winter storm warning (windy, cold and snow) for tomorrow into the next day so likely Mom won't be heading out. we're not setting the thermostat down tonight as low as usual because some weeks ago when the power went out overnight and we'd had set the furnace back we didn't like how...

Can You Survive a Gardening Winter Without Buying Seeds?

it's not that i think buying seeds from catalogues is bad or anything it is just not something i need to do at this point of my life. :) i have all the beans i can possibly grow, when i need more i can get them from places i already know or find more but it usually hasn't involved ordering...

    stubbed toes and mud pies

@Marie2020 don't be sad, i really don't mind winter that much, sure being cold isn't great but we do have heat and i know how to deal with being outside in the cold weather and all that. i lived much further north in much worse weather than what we get here and it is pretty mild in comparison.

Indoor Growing for Gardeners Who Are Sick of the Snow!

thermal mass, below the frost line for an area the ground should be a fairly stable temperature. heatsinks, geothermal heat, heatpumps, insulation, underground houses, etc. i would do a lot of research before sinking a lot into it as ground water can be issues. also mold can be a problem for...

    stubbed toes and mud pies

a bit of snow shovelling today. mainly because i didn't want the packed down snow from where Mom had driven on it to get turned into ice so i wanted to get that scraped off the top part of the driveway before it gets colder again. the wind and cold wasn't too bad and the exercise and fresh air...

    Gone to the Dogs

i always liked the coconut candies and still do. it always meant i had a lot of goodies around Valentines Day because others didn't care for them.

    Green & Yellow Oranges

i like limes, lemons, oranges, grapefruit and things even more bitter so i doubt i'd dislike them.

Can You Survive a Gardening Winter Without Buying Seeds?

almost all A's and one B... (the first question didn't have an answer that fit so A was the closest - i don't get seed catalogues in the mail) i have to translate a lot of the questions into what fits close to what i do here. also the talk of seed packets. i don't buy those at the stores any...

2025 Little Easy Bean Network - Growers Of The Future Will Be Glad We Saved

i'm not complaining because most of this is my own fault, but after getting all the beans shelled out and somewhat sorted i think i have maybe 5lbs of dry beans (a normal season is about 20 - 30lbs). my own fault being not getting some gardens weeded before they got overgrown and not being able...

    Coffee

if you can find enough square pots that are fairly deep you can put them all in the same area right next to each other and fill them with some potting soil and perhaps a mix of your garden soil and then use your seeds in those pots and remember to water them enough so they don't dry out. when...
