I have grown Ohio Pole here in our hot Midwest summers and never had any trouble with new seed sprouting in the pods. I wonder if some climates are not hot enough to dry out the pods and seed fast enough for the way the pods are constructed?
I think Gopher is not stable yet. Don't worry about sending any back this year. Grow them again next year. Gopher and Cleopatra came out of the Same packet. All the beans from Avalon page 10 to Yellow Point came to me in 52 packets of crosses from Will Bonsall of Industry Maine. Some of these...
Is it from Catalonia Spain? I acquired the bean from heirloomgal and her information was that it was from Germany.
Mongeta de la Neu is this the Spanish name for the bean?
Today I picked a pound .45 kilo of green beans. My south flowerbed this year contained 5 pole snap bean varieties. 13 poles with 4 beans planted around each pole. I picked all the seed that all the plants produced and then the plants started growing new leaves and went into bloom again. I've...
When I saw you post this bean on here last here I think it was last year. I just loved the light markings the bean has. It was so different. I had no idea that the bean was this productive. Yes we certainly have our own little bean triangle going. I grew the Kroatische bean I got from you also...
Nona Agnes, Grand-Mere and Grah Rovicak are just gorgeous and my three favorites of your post. Yes weather definitely makes growing great quality dry beans a big challenge.
Today I decided to take a photo of my Blue Spitball plants. Just to show what some of my bean plants had done this summer. I think these plants are about 3 inches tall and spread out a little on the ground. The last time I grew them they climbed a 6 foot 2 meter pole without any trouble. There...
Went out into the Pole bean patch today and harvested nearly the last of the lima pods. Severed all their vines from their roots. Have been cutting other beans from their roots too. I want all the vines to be nice and crisp in a few weeks so I can shred everything with my lawnmower and till all...
Interesting season. Our rain has been feast or famine all summer. July we had a 3 day round of 4 inches, 10 cm of rain. Since this past Saturday we've had 3 inches, 7.62 cm of rain. My south flower bed snap pole beans are pulling some interesting tricks. San Fiarce, Green Savage, Delicous Giant...
Seed Savers Exchange/Heritage Farm ocassionally will list a bean that it has grown and will put in the description that the cultivar is not a vigorous climber. So this is something you can run into from time to time with bean plants. If all the plants you have now are not vigorous you won't get...
So it looks like you have gotten two off type seeds from Avalon. The first person to grow Avalon did not mention any off types. So if a cross does occur you won't know it until you grow crossed seed the next season. It is my understandind that depending on all the genes the two parents contain...
So if this system is not lifted by the time you send me beans wrapped in a plain brown paper package. What photo will you give AI to represent the contents of your package? Do you have a cassette tape?
I'm having also this same kind of seed quality with some varieties. However seed that is not totally filled out that are very wrinkled or have places that are deeply sunken into the seed may not germinate at all. I had tested these kind of seeds for germination a few years ago when I noticed a...
However those overseas growers that have the documentation to send their return seeds directly to the USDA inspection station in Linden, New Jersey with the yellow/green label attached and the documentation inside their package still need to do so.
My 2025 bean show that I like to do here every year will probably actually take place starting sometime in January 2026. About a month and half from now I will be traveling to Florida for a month and a half. In my 2025 bean show I will tell you about a bean I had to keep selecting to get it back...
I think your Cornplanter Purple has been crossed with another bean. If you know what your Cornplanter Purple pods and supposed to look like and the seed color and shape you can keep selecting for those traits and possibly get your Cornplanter Purple straightened out eventually.
