plants can change the number of stomata they have through time if the CO2 levels are not sufficient for their photosynthesis. they have fossil records of various plants which show this during various periods of the earth's history when the CO2 levels were different.

however, underneath it all are the bacteria, viruses, phages, fungi, etc. which have been around for much longer, but because they live in a different way and aren't very big they're not considered as important - without them we'd not be here nor would the plants or other animals.

they are not native to north america but can spread or escape from gardens or be moved around by animals, wind, water, soil... as a two year plant they don't seem to persist in many areas unless there is some kind of soil disturbance and the native plants are not apex forest trees. that said...

just to make things clearer to me, this was the 2nd year you grew Purple Dove that you saw the seeds come out differently?

i see a range of browns there some of the lighter ones are toned towards what i would call olive and then the ones in the middle are darker.

Russ, that looks very much like a possible parent of Monster... i can't quite tell from the color of your picture but from what i can tell it's similar to what came to me via those Dapple Gray seeds.

make sure to inspect it first. i made the mistake once of bringing in some compost without looking at it first and to make it even worse i had them mix it with some topsoil first. i didn't know how bad it was until i started watering the new gardens and started seeing all these bits of metal...
