The soil is actually pretty horrible. I've been working on it over the last two years to make it "growable" when we moved in it was mostly cray and rock and trash (it's right up against an alley way in Detroit which used to be brick but now is paved, so you find bricks in the soil all the time...

Yea i noticed that I didn't have any female flowers. Last year this happened to me to and I never got any :( I hope I get some this year. Or I might not try growing them next year. Poor pumpkins. At least my Melons are growing!!!

How does one go about getting the green shell off the black walnuts. I've been hitting them with a hammer and then pealing it off, I was just wondering if I could do anything faster. Also how does one get the shell to break with out smashing the nut inside. Any tips would be awesome.THANKS!
