Okay then what should I be applying to keep the catapillars from eating my plants? I heard the DE was a great soil enhancer and for blooms. So is it okay to apply just to the soil aorund the plants to keep the nasty bugs off?

I am not certain but I hope someone will come on and say that it is safe to spray or sprinkly DE (Diatamacious earth) human grade directly on the plants. ANyone know for sure? What about sprinkling it driectly on the soil as well, any benefits? Dilly Girl

Yep bought some from Hone Depot where they carry both Vermiculite asbestos free and perlite in small bags as well as 3.5 cu ft bags. I have more sandy soil so the vermiculite is the way I went. thanks

Hi nifty. Do you use the one third mixture he suggests in your boxes? I just bought some vermiculite to add to my soil. Can't hurt. I have just worked too darn hard on this batch to disgard it for his recommended compost vermiculite and compost blend. lol Stubborn lady I guess. Dilly

Has anyone used vermiculite or perlite?

Okay Pat I grab a handful and made a ball it slightly crumbled but held shape. I then squeezed my hand shut and it did make a longer roll but as soon as I tried to roll it between my palms it crumbled. So what would you make of that? Laughing you probably are thinking what a dirt dummy. ;)

Hi, I want to have my soil tested. Do I have to take a sample in someplace to have this done. Or can I buy some sort of testing strips that tell me the same thing? I need to tests some trees I planted in tubs, as well as the soil I am putting into my raised beds. Please help advise a newbie...
