I should have said consistantly. Not 80 for a day or two then down in the 40's to 50's for daytime highs. 80's to 70's for highs. 65 for the worst high after a 80 day degree or so. It's the Jet Stream gone crazy.

We will probably stop getting these cold snaps after about the 20th of May. I'm getting the same cool downs here that you are. I plant beans when it starts feeling a bit summery outside.

If soil that is cold and wet that has bean seed planted in it the seed usually just rots. It's never a good idea to try to rush the normal season. Things planted slightly later will usually mature at the right time. Plants are besides light also driven by temperature.

I have used grass clippings alot. I use my lawn mower with a bagger and fill a 35 gallon garbage can then hual that to the garden when it's full and spread the lawn clippings. Go back for another load. I have even asked the neighbors if I could cut their grass for them and bag their lawn too...

Wow you are lucky you are soon to get your last frost. I think you are about 2 to 3 weeks ahead of me. My last frost could come as late as May 22.

Hello @Fasol What might be the names of the bean varieties bred from the Vavilov collection? Are they pictured in your bean photo postings with the wood grain background? Will you be posting more such photos of your beans in the future?

I would mulch bush bean well for weed control and some bush plants when they become mature lay over on the ground. Good mulching will keep them healthier and off the soil. You will appreciate the mulching you did when some of the plants you save for seed start drying pods.
