Wow, I was wondering the same thing. My chickens also free range and I didn't know how to keep them out of the garden beds. I'll definitely be taking the advice of putting them away in a run until the garden grows bigger then let them back out again.
Yeah, I'd imagine warm weather vegetables wouldn't do too good indoors during the winter. But cold tolerant veggies I imagine would do great. At least it would provide you with a steady supply of root vegetables, spinach, peas, onions, you get the idea. It all depends on how much space you have...
I love rice and would love to grow some. I've found several different websites about growing rice in containers and think I can make it work. So I've ordered some rice seed through a local supplier to give it a try.
Anyone here ever grow rice? Know what to expect? Or have any tips?
See I think that's a very good looking tree right there! I've been reading every book I can get from the library on bonsai to prepare myself. The more I read, the more excited I get.
Well, Thanks Rosalind. I just ordered some Japanese Rugosas. Then again I'm a sucker for anything japanese. If they really do get hedglike I'm thinking I might be able to use them to block the deer from our property?
I just got my first shipment of seeds in the mail for spring! YAY! One is going to be no challenge at all. Hops, I'm hoping to start amateur beer making next fall/winter.
Dwarf coffee plants, which will have to remain indoors and hopefully produce coffee if they like me.

Oh man I can't wait to try the chicken wire barrel. We have a ton of chicken wire fencing left over from building our coop so that would be a good use. I tried growing potatos in the garden bed last year but the soil just didn't mesh with the taters so this year I'm hoping the potato barrel...
I couldn't wait for winter to be over. Last Tuesday I stuck a few toothpicks in an avocado pit and have it suspended over a water filled glass jar. I have been watching it carefully each day hoping it will sprout. The madness has taken my brain.
I'm so ready I can already taste tomatoes! There's still a good foot of snow on the ground here so I haven't been able to till up any of the garden soil outside yet. But I am sitting on my hands to keep from starting my vegetable seeds too early indoors. My average last frost date is May1st. I...
Hi folks!
I'm new to growing my own roses but after this last year I have decided that I would love to have some more on our land. I say "some more" because when we bought the place it came with a tall shrub of single petal white roses out next to the garage. With some research I found out...
