Someone talk to me about Elephant garlic( I pulled it) update

OK - I planted elephant garlic last fall. It came up and is doing great. It has giant blooms and I pulled some dirt from around the base to see that it has a very impressive bulb underground. My question is about when to dig it up? Do I wait for the leaves to fall over like I do with onions? Or...

Big and/or weird - The strange veggie thread!

I was going to wait and start this thread after I had a picture to start things off , but so many of you guys are way ahead of me so I'm putting it up now. Every year I end up having oddball vegetables like "twin" yellow squash or tomatoes that are extra large or deformed (from the blossoms...

    Black walnut trees & tomatoes

What is the deal with not planting tomatoes near black walnut trees? I remember hearing about it years ago , but it has slipped my mind. I have one garden that is maybe 15-20 ' from a very large black walnut tree and I'm just wondering. It has other things in it now and I have plenty of other...

What I've been putting on my baby plants

We have a pond on the property here and about a month ago a friend was out here fishing and left me with about 2 1/2 dozen minnows. I wasn't planning to fish any for a while , so the minnows went into a plastic barrel that holds about 20 gallons. So I've been taking water out of the barrel to...

Anyone else garden by moon phases/zodiac?

I saw someone mention it in the "how's your garden doing so far" thread and I'm just wondering if anyone else does it? I try to but with two kids and about a million other things going on I miss sometimes. It works like this (roughly) : plant above ground crops when the moon is waxing to full...

    Apple tree blooming

I get so tired of this. Every year my apple tree blooms and about a week later it'll frost. Then I have to go out at 5 AM with the garden hose and spray the frost off of it if I want any apples at all. Stupid tree. [/img]

Has anyone else ever tried an "OS cross" cabbage?

My son and I grew one last year and it got to around 35 lbs. Ridiculous! But it was a lot of fun to grow and my son loved it. I'll have to try and find the pictures of it.

How is your garden doing so far?

Mine is looking ok. I can't wait until May so I can plant something besides cool weather stuff. My onions are out of control! Anyway, just a survey of sorts. I'd like to see what some others have growing so I thought I'd start.[/img]
