I bought a Ferry Morse gardening guide and it has great tips that I thought I'd pass along.
IF YOU HAVE:
Clay Soil...... add coarse sand(not beach sand), compost, and peat moss.
Silt Soil.....add coarse sand or gravel and compost or well-aged horse manure mixed with fresh straw.
Sandy...
I thought about starting them from seeds...that seemed like it would take too long, but it'll be cheaper.
Which do you think is best...from seeds or purchase a few?
BTW, I'm in zone 8.
They simply love and respect the land God has given them. They take care of what they love & work hard to supply for their families. And I think all that horse maure has something to do with it too...:D
So far just 3 strawberry plants and about 40 onion bulbs.
I'll do most of my planting during my spring break in a couple weeks. I want to plant lots of okra, cucumbers and corn. Maybe some green beans.
The problem is....the plant itself is large with big flowers aaand tiny squash. The squash get about 2 inches and just quit growing and fall off. I was so looking forward to harvesting some squash soon.
Can I replant in hopes that they'll do better? I'm in zone 8
I have 2 cinnamon red hots Carnations. They like full sun. Don't remove the buds. I did that with a few.....big mistake. The thing is, once the petals have withered, somehow new petals will come up where the old withered ones were. Hope this helps :)
That looks good! My hubby needs to put up an arbor like that. He has our vines are on a stake and I know eventually that ain't gonna work. The good part is that the vines has beaucoup tiny grapes on them. Can't wait to pickin' time. By the way, that wouldn't happen to be a pecan tree I see in...
:bun:bun are eatin' my green bean leaves and I won't be able to finish putting a barrier up til the weekend! :hit I did manage to put chicken wire around some, but it wasn't enough...ugh.
Is there anything else I can do to keep the lil stinkers out in the mean time??
I bought 2 from Walmart's garden center about 2 wks. ago...they were doing fine when I planted them. This morning I checked them and they were looking great...this evening when I went to water them, they were wilted and some of the stems had fallen off.:hit What gives???
